A once great group who produced three amazing albums on Ultimae. Now it seems that they've headed in a very different direction, one that's not nearly as interesting. Their recent albums are more atmospheric ambient - not bad, but they don't stand out either, and they don't possess the uniqueness and magic found in their earlier work.

Perhaps CBL suffered from too much fame? I see them posting on Facebook a lot these days. It sounds like they're about to "reissue" their first three albums... with remixed tracks. I can't imagine that they'll sound any better than they originally did, given their recent output. And it comes across as a move to capitalize off of their earlier output and popularity rather than to invest in making something even better.

Now, I'm not too hopefully that these guys will be producing more great music. I'm prepared for a string of mediocre albums until they give up. But maybe they'll surprise us and resurrect the magic.

Either way, we will remember them for the three great albums they gave us.

If I could get a score written about my life from birth to death this guys would be the one and only choice, if the universe had a sound this would be it! Thank you for the beautiful music :)

Put simply, creators of perhaps the best music I ever heard in my life, all genres aside. Their tunes are just so beautiful, so epic, and oh yes, so wonderfully acidic. Seriously, I could listen to these guys all day, though I would probably want to intersperse it with some Solar Fields, Zymosis, E-Mantra, and Harax, just because I love their material nearly as much.

The epic pads, the atmospheric 303s, and the lush/haunting/uplifting melodies; CBL are just UNREAL! In particular, they do the uplifting brand of psy-chill INCREDIBLY well, and honestly, when I listen to their tracks, it makes me proud to be a human being -- or indeed, to be a Carbon-Based Lifeform!

So, please: check out the glorious, beautiful, and awe-inspiring sonic landscapes of CBL; you will be better for it.

Apart from Hydroponic Garden Carbon Based Lifeforms also had three previous releases. 'The Path' was a fourteen track demo released in 1998. Some of the tracks from that demo were then released along with a few new tracks on two DAM-CDs called 'The Phat #000001' & 'The Phat #000002' in 1999. I have some of the tracks in mp3 format but not the DAM-CDs so im unable to submit the releases to the database.
