I bought a copy this morning from my local walmart.
I must have got lucky because, after a cleaning, this sounds pretty good.

Mine comes with a yellow sticker on the front of the jewel box. Everything else is the same as this release. I have not found a mention of the sticker anywhere.

RTI really screwed this pressing up.
I agree with all the previous comments. The mastering is great but I've had three copies from Amazon and they all looked like they'd been used as beer coasters.
Lots of Snap Crackle and Pop even after multiple wet washes. But I can hear the dynamics under the noise.
Makes me wonder about the future of RTI pressings.

Noisy pressing even after a couple cleanings. Sounds dynamic though if you can get your ears from ignoring all the noise.

sounds great! A few surface noises. Not bad...dynamics wide, soundstage deep and wide...my system seems to pick up many of the nuances. Rich, deep, a real joy. CRAFT does a pretty good job. I say let's encourage them to continue (and improve) their good work. I saw REM about '82...maybe 83, at the univ of Illinois' Huff Gym...about 75-100 people in attendance milling around the gym floor.

Bought this in college as one of my first albums of a growing collection and my heart sunk when I got to Nighswimming (my warble actually starts during Man on the Moon). I've kept this in my collection for the novelty, but have never replayed it. Glad to have the 2017 edition arriving soon.

I use this original US version LP as a test reference for high end turntables and cartridges. I’ve had this since it first came out and although I’ve played it several times it is handled like the rare artifact it is and still reveals stunning detailed analog mastering during playback on a good system. No surface noise at all.

It took me three times to get a copy that wasn't filthy and scuffed to hell out of the shrink! But the third time was a charm (after a good wash). Sounds great.

Not much of an upgrade.
Would love for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab to give this and R.E.M. - Out Of Time a shot. R.E.M., and we, need and deserve quiet versions of these wonderful albums.
