He has been in the music business since 1965, working as everything from a talent scout to a recording artist. He founded Magnet (2) in 1973 together with Michael Levy, though left the label in 1975. Since 1980 Shelley has lived in Canada, and currently he works as an independent songwriter. His son, John Southworth is a singer-songwriter.
