Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows

Darkwave musical project based in Frankfurt, Germany. Founded in 1989 as a duo by Anna-Varney Cantodea (then just Varney Cantodea) and Holger (2) - under the name "Sopor Aeternus". Later other members joined the project, who later left. In 1992 Holger, after releasing 3 demo tapes together ("Es Reiten Die Toten So Schnell" (1991), "Rufus" (1992), and "Till Time And Times Are Done" (1992)), left Sopor Aeternus, and it became a solo project of Varney Cantodea, who is started using pseudonym Anna-Varney Cantodea since 1997.

Sopor Aeternus means "eternal sleep" in Latin.
