Lustmord

For me, "Lustmord" is the best artist / project of the darkambient / industrial trend.

Discovering Lustmords albums can be mindblowing. There is no point of writing about any particular tracks. If you're reading this and you haven't heard any of his material yet I can honestly say : I envy you the same way I would be jealous to a person who tries shrooms for the first time. Half of his output is hit and miss, the early more industrial albums from the 80's might not bliss with excitement, especially if you can't stand more sharp/noisy/experimental eeriness but that stuff is well cemented into history of industrialism and let it be so. Now in the nineties the shift towards 'dark ambient' - the term glued up to Lustmord for the lack of the better word - Brian himself does not affiliate with this term - is something out of this dimension. His live show recordings are great too, although Stockholm sounds a bit muffled. Krakow sounds slightly better although instead of nice sub-bass you hear rumble in the bottom end and sounds interaction with the building. Perhaps that was the whole idea ? Rising... This is just a pearl, everything from start to finish, sheer bliss, the legend behind with his resurfacing after 25 years, this live album could be a good starting point yall.
Post 2000. Without being nostalgic and all, in my opinion he's at the top of his game. Albums are much cleaner, a lot tighter,more refined, less repetitive, very, very dark, powerful, pheeew, I don't know what else to say... except that it can become the soundtrack of your life and everything else after that can sound ... ehhhhm... cheesy to say the least. Check out for sure [Beyond] and [The Dark Places of the Earth] which are basically extended remixed versions of [other] - minus guitars - which serves me right. His last studio album The Word as Power based on extensive use of human voice in a sort of folk/ethnic / [edit : /ritual] manner (? - well that's the thing - how would you describe it ?? - give it a listen) is so captivating and haunting it's fucking scary. Like Headphone Commute said somewhere over here 'turn the volume up, lights out and try not to wet your pants'. So it's been what, three years now ? He's quite consistent putting the albums out, so must be up to something bad-ass in his vault. I'm sure we'll get to see a new album by Lustmord very soon.
You have to have good speakers though and subs. The energy coming out of these compositions is unbelievable. His sound is HUGE. You have to feel it, soon as you hit the button the house starts to breathe. I've never seen him live and experienced it there and then but I will in this life.
