Profil:	New Zealand label, founded in 1981. Self-distributed from 1981 to October 1987. Distributed by WEA Records Limited, Oct 1987 to April 1990, then to Festival Records (NZ) Ltd. (for NZ) and Mushroom Records (in Australia). Partially sold to Mushroom Records at the same time, with Mushroom acquiring the balance over the next decade. When Warner Music purchased Festival Mushroom Records in 2005, Flying Nun went as part of the deal. In 2010 Flying Nun was sold to a consortium owned by founder Roger Shepherd and Neil Finn. Owned in 2023 by Shepherd and Ben Howe. For help dating repress/reissues of pre-Web titles: Both [email protected] & www.flyingnun.co.nz existed by 1996.

Roger Shepherd has a memoir coming out on June 27, 2017. The book is titled 'In Love With These Times: My Life With Flying Nun Records'.
Harper Collins is the publisher. Find it on Amazon, etc.

Almost makes you want to go to New Zealand to witness if the land is as off kilter as most of the recordings on Flying Nun. It seems like New Zealand takes up another planet entirely as their sounds do not follow traditional conventions in contemporary music. Flying Nun are the John Cage of indie, I know for a fact time goes slower down there, so when we earth people experience 1 week, a new zealander person has just given a glance sideways. Not shifty or shady either, but one of pure concern and ingenuity. Every now and then you meet a person who has a 'silent middle' pure as you like, let us just say Flying Nun have a silent middle.
