In the past Victor Company Of Japan, Ltd. was directly involved in the music industry, but nowadays it serves that industry via subsidiary companies such as Victor Entertainment, Inc. and Teichiku Entertainment, Inc.

This company also operated large vinyl, cassette, VHS and CD pressing plants in Yokohama. Lacquer cuts can be identified by e.g. 111 and/or 112 in the vinyl runouts. Please note: there are many more numbers (e.g. 121, 131, 137, 139, 141, etc.).

Victor Talking Machine Co. Of Japan, Ltd. was established in Japan by the US Victor Talking Machine Co. in September 1927. It owned the Victor label and manufactured and distributed records for several others.
In 1943 the company name was changed to Nippon Onkyo, K.K. (日本音響株式會社).
In December 1945, the company name was changed to Victor Company Of Japan, Ltd.
In 1972 the music division spun off into Victor Musical Industries, Inc.
Another spin-off was Nippon Phonogram Co., Ltd., established in June 1970, and handling Philips and associated labels.
