Vince Guaraldi – A Charlie Brown Christmas

This has always been on my wishlist, so glad I got it at an estate sale. Feels a little weird listening to it in April but oh well! Pretty good pressing too.

Absolute beauty of a pressing. The old cliche of “it sounds like the band is in the room with you” really rings true on this.

I haven’t heard the 45 with Steve, but prefer having this on a 33 anyway. Gives me a little more time to sip my scotch and have a smoke without having to flip it.

I just did a quick A/B with the Craft @amsrie / Horn cut vs the recent JPowell cut and the 2017 Craft cut is SO MUCH BETTER.

The 2017 cut sounds so much more analogue and dynamic. The 2021 is flat in comparison.

The 2017 is much more 3D. The bass and timber is so much more well rounded and clear and "real". The 2021 sounds muffled in comparison.

This is currently $29 on Acoustic Sounds, so buy it while you can!

first time hearing this album in a vinyl format, and glad to have this fine version; no noise, natural and detailed sound. it has to be said that this is a fine jazz album, putting aside its context in the beautiful film. the tracks, 'skating,' and the instrumental of 'christmas time...' are both cool-bop knockouts. well worth the (original) asking price for this, imo.

It's just not the holidays without the Vince Guaraldi Trio playing these Christmas classics on vinyl.
This group swings as hard as any, and Guaraldi chooses to show considerable restraint in his playing, with occasional bursts of virtuosity. Contrast this approach with Oscar Peterson, who is in beast mode 100% of the time.

This issue is the foil outer sleeve version with swirled gold/silver vinyl. My copy was definitely noisy out of the wrapper and after 2 good washes, still has static sounds throughout. It was a gift, so I will keep it, but beware of some schlocky product being peddled out there. Maybe the less special edition black vinyl is a safer choice.

Mine came with a lot of tiny scratches. When i took it out of the paper sleeve for the first time I immediately saw a big scratch on side A. This scratch was probably made in the factory. The record doesn’t sound really good, there are many clicks and pops. Really disappointed with my record :(

Flawless sounding pressing, and the starburst pattern gives a nice peppermint vibe to it~
