Dirty Projectors – Bitte Orca

grabbed this during their (VMP) 48 hour sale they had the other day for $16 the record sounds great! very quiet pressing! and the colors are a nice touch.

I’m generally skeptical of colored vinyl, but VMP did it right here. This is an album I was really into back in college in digital form, and hearing it in vinyl was a minor revelation. Amazing mastering job, everything sounds so fresh here!

You know what, I really have to brag on this release. The sleeve is high quality and the pressings are beautiful and match the cover art so perfectly. It’s as aesthetically pleasing as they come. The records sound really, really great and the vocals really shine. A great addition to any collection IMO.

Great album to have in your collection, but the pressing job is alright, the mids are not as clear but still clean sounds. the version i got didnt seem like a 180g vinyl as advertised and record labels on both sides hit the needle at the end of all tracks, which is kinda disappointing.

Phenomenal record. I seem to have lucked out with a solid pressing. I feel for those who got the nasty grooves - that just sucks.

I got this via VMP and for the first listening I just listened to the first couple of tracks.. and instantly dismissed it as something not for me. But I'm giving it another chance.. and although it is not really my usual type of music.. it is not as bad as I remember it, it kind of reminds me of an acoustic Animal Collective a bit. It uses very high pitched stringed guitars and quite high vocals too, lots of complex vocal lines which sound quite discordant to me at times.

There are some quite experimental tracks on here I would say but maybe it is because I have nothing I remember to compare them too, I'm trying to like it but I'm not sure I'm really there.. it is a very weird album for me and they're really trying to do something very grandoise and high brow musically, and it doesn't really work for me. However I'm sure it has plenty of fans otherwise it wouldn't be on VMP.

The extra "VMP Essentials" tab that wraps around the outer sleeve is an annoyance, I have taken it out and stored it elsewhere. The pressing, however is GREAT. Really fun to hear this on vinyl for the first time after knowing it so well on mp3 and CD.

it can be pretty hard to fit the discs into the sleeves sometimes, something ive noticed is a common VMP downfall. but it's a great genre-defining album no less !

Beautiful release, and excellent pressing. I am miles away from this type of music, but I wanted to be open minded so I did not swap it. Not a fan, but it expands my mind.
BTW, why is it cheaper to buy it in the discogs marketplace than actually buy it on the VMP subscription service?
