Shuggie Otis – Inspiration Information

Got a dud as well. Lots of noise in right channel, no punch or sparkle to recording. Bad batch? I wonder if this was sourced from a needle drop? By contrast, bought Freedom Flight at the same time from same vendor and it sounds stellar.

Think I must have a dud. Mine sounds dull and flat.

luakabop-label. no wonder present musicians like beck, prince, stereolab
& high llamas praise shuggie otis that much. subtle soul funk-pearls with
magnificient string arrangements, catchy keyboards and effective drumbox,
which all sounds that modern like recorded yesterday! hailed as a young
black blues guitar-"wunderkind", he was asked to replace mick taylor of
the rolling stones, but shuggie had other things in mind...

This is an absolutely stunning pressing. Dead flat, silent and depth of field and dynamics are tidy and warm. Really fun to listen to after years of the luaka bop CD issue. An absolute bargain! Grab it without fear!

Pressing is dead quiet, the mastering is good, bit Tidal sounds just a bit better. Cheap kacket, poly-lined inner, no insert

This is my first hearing of this classic on vinyl.

The pressing is marbled somewhat and is perfectly flat and plays with very little noise, a few clicks in total. Sound is acceptable enough, it isnt obviously audiophile but i enjoyed my listening. Its a brilliant record and quite amazing what this kid could do.

Look forward to trying the MOV version which i expect will be pressed better still but how will it sound 🤔

Can anyone comment on the sound quality of this reissue?

Typical MOV of the era.... not the sharpest artwork and fanciest of jacket BUT.... a pressing of total flatness and near silence and above average sound quality at a sensible price. Perhaps an OG would sound abit better but it wont be close to this quiet.

Fine pressing with minimal surface noise. Another great MOV release.
