Commander Tom – Are Am Eye? (Remixes)

A stone cold hard trance/hard house track, certainly worthy of a release on the bonzai label having been released on additive, definitely commander toms finest hour in the recording studio, non of his other tracks compare to this, head straight to the b side if you like sharkey, energy, mzone, mark eg all the usual suspects' style of music....you won't be disappointed ;)

The opening of this version is taken from an old hardcore track, Acen - Trip II The Moon Part 2, which also uses the orchestral tune from You Only Live Twice.

This is probably the best remix of Are Am Eye in my opinion, followed closely by the Pants and Corset remix, Who Killed Kenny. The main hoover in the breakdown is simply awesome, powerful and stunningly eerie. The main drop has a German feel to it and is a bit jerky, but is definitely banging and does the job on the dance floor. If you like hoover filled hard house you need this tune!

This record is a re-edition released in 1999 of the reference Noom 013, a must of all electronic tunes in my opinion. Are am eye is the Commander Tom masterpiece, a track with spooky and blasting synths, a number one in the top-ten for a large variety of DJ's and clubs all over the world. Spinned since 1995 till today, here in Spain (at least in my city, Valencia)is one of the most legendary tracks of our history. In this record we have another interesting remix which didn't appear in the original Noom 013.

The 'strange ambient symphonic part' you mention was the string section originally used in the Theme tune for the James Bond movie 'You Only Live Twice'.

It was then sampled in the Robbie Williams track 'Millennium'

Definative hard trance classic that inspired a generation & no doubt played a big part in the hoover sound of uk hard house. Commander Tom - german trance legend & co-writer of very similar but unique & equally outstanding Believer by DJ Energy.

The original mix is still the best by far.

Thomas P. Heckmann's remix the one for me here. Quite awesome. He changes the track completely and introduces his trademark bassline phasing all over the place. Can still rattle me spine. :)

This is probably one of the hardest and strangest versions of "Are Am Eye?" I've heard. Rather eclectic, it opens with some samples from what sounds like old radio broadcasts, then an acidy sweeping 'alarm' line before presenting a rock-hard beat (with the trademark cut hihat stabs). After a while the alarm returns, before the track cuts directly to a strange ambient symphonic part (sounds like some 50's musical tune...?). It then cuts directly to the RMI 'theme', the infamous hoover wails, before reintroducing the beats after a very nice hihat buildup. Then, nearing the end, it cuts abruptly again and goes back to the symphonic part for a while, this time together with the beats, then the hoover stabs and beats to the end, where again we hear the radio samples.
A release well worth having, if only for the 'guess-which-famous-tune-remix-THIS-is'-factor :)
