Rezensionen
- Found this used today and was surprised to catch a copy of this in yellow. It looks exactly like the pictures here and after a cleaning (which it didn’t visibly need, it must’ve been cherished before being sold) it sounds pretty good! As good as Verve/MGM pressings go, which I hear are overall not the greatest.
- I purchased a copy today for $15 second hand from a record store, Mine is a slightly darker yellow too with the faint marbling/ streaks.. The old man came up to me as he saw me trying to work out which pressing it was and said it was a ‘Scorpio’ release/ bootleg (but not). Apparently Scorpio made exact reproductions (down to the matrix etchings) of many records and they would be sold all over the world. There’s no information on discogs regarding Scorpio releases but I have found forums and even a brief interview in which he talks about his business.. It’s a bit confusing as it blurs the line between a seller knowingly selling you a Scorpio replica (or bootleg of you will) or a official copy.
- My version is a clear yellow darker, more like orange. Middle label is yellow not blue. Is it a variant of this version?
- This surprisingly doesn't sound half bad and the pressing quality is above par for Rainbo (record is flat and relatively quiet with only minimal clicks and pops here and there, never overwhelming). Obviously this isn't an audiophile recording so the mix already sounds rough to begin with (i.e. some overblown high frequencies and unbalanced levels ocassionally) but there is a nice full low end and the overall recording is not compressed with decent dynamics, never sounding thin. I think this remaster stays true to the original raw sound of this album but this vinyl version also has a nice warmth to it that is lacking on the CD/digital format. The clarity isn't striking but one can still make out the instruments and pick up on the little details (the original never had striking clarity to begin with). In the end this is not a bad listening experience by any means, stays true to the original sound, raw yet engaging. I found this used for $15 and it will surely do until I can get my hands on an original. The marble yellow vinyl looks nice too. However, the cover is kinda lame (they didn't include the peelable banana sticker, rather it's just printed on).
- What does this vinyl look like? I just picked up a colored copy today on what looks like orange or yellow vinyl, it's got a few small streaks of white in it too.
- Vor 9 Jahren bearbeitetMy copy of this is exactly the same (side two as seen here omits the printed duration time for the final track European Son) but strangely has the labels stuck on the wrong sides - e.g. side 1 is on side 2 and vice versa. I wonder if that's a rarity? There is no mention of this anywhere else.
