Anmerkungen

The album's original UK version, which arrived in British stores five months after the American release. Features the controversial "dress cover." For USA release in a different ‘cartoon’ cover see The Man Who Sold The World.

This is the issue with the misspelt "Tonny Visconti" on the labels. Mercury corrected this and other UK Mercury copies state "Tony Visconti".

Note that several counterfeits have been made of this record over the years. Quickest and easiest way to tell is that if it does not have machine stamped matrices in the A and B side run outs then it is not genuine. In addition, one version does not even go to the trouble of faking the black Mercury centre labels but instead has yellow ones without the Mercury logo. You can also tell some counterfeits because the front image is cropped so that Bowie's boot is right at the cover's edge, unlike the image here.

This is one of Bowie's best early LPs, and one that many people seem unaware of. The music is awesome but what interests me most about it is that the songs deal with subjects that are very contemporary, even today: Mental health and disability, post-combat traumatic stress disorder, Artificial Intelligence and, of course, sexuality. This is a cultural gem from a true genius.

I have a promotional copy of this record. I purchased it from the son of an ex-London DJ back in the early 80's. It is correct in every way (Tonny and Woodmansley etc). It is stamped on the back 8 APR 1971. However, the exciting thing is the promotional folder enclosed. It has a letter to Mr. Bob Grace of Chrysalis Music, a copy of a Rolling Stone Article, printed lyrics to "All the Madmen", A fold out with two printed reviews (Rolling Stone and Los Angeles Free Press and, finally, two photographs. The cover is showing a bit of edgware, but is very presentable. The vinyl is perfect. Can anyone give me a rough guide on price as I have not seen another?!

I have the version of the album with Visconti spelled Tonny , also Mick Woodmanseys name is spelled wrongly on the album cover, The condition of the record is excellent and the cover has normal wear and tear but very good with no markings. I would like to sell if possible.

This album was heavily counterfeited. Original and legit copies have an unmistakable textured cover, with the Dame's feet fully visible. The spine should also read the correct way. The matrix is machine stamped. The fakes can sometimes be pretty good, but when you hold it in your hands it is easy to tell the difference.

Also: there are two legit original UK versions of this album. One that spells Tony Visconti's name correctly on the label, the other says "Tonny".
