Finally I got this special Version of "my buddy". Three minutes of this song throws me right into the feeling an algae must have at the sunny bottom of the sea.
I'm not a regular single buyer, but this one held back my attention for several good reasons. First, it is a very beautiful item, and it reminded me that in my student time I would sometimes buy some seven inches edited on Sarah records even if long players were already a priority for me. These singles, in a way, looked the same as this one, in their plastic bags and folded sleeves, with their authentic "do it yourself" aesthetic naiveté, and at least this format has always been particularly adapted to perfect pop tunes, in a way that was the case with the first song of that strange and noisy canadian band : Arcade Fire ! You surely know the story so far. But the b-side, in itself, justifies the acquisition of this little record (with a wonderful sound !). This hawaïn-style jazz recording was in fact a piece of musical art by Will and Win Butler's grand father, Alvino Rey, in 1940. Clearly meant to be heard on the single side of an heavyweighted vinyl : "in heaven, everything is fine..."
