Listened to this today on headphones. An amazing aspect of this live recording are THE AUDIENCE MEMBERS WHO TALK THE ENTIRE TIME!
(I had to check the liners to be certain it hadn’t been recorded at The Green Mill!)
The discipline and dedication it must have required to carry on conversing in the face of these performances is truly impressive. At times they are overwhelmed by the sheer force of the music, but they mostly resume as soon as they can.
I can’t help but wonder if the track title “Everyone’s got something to say” isn’t a comment on the situation.
But here’s the thing: Everyone on the bandstand sure has something to say!
This is a wonderful show, glad it got released despite the raw recording. These guys are all on fire, all the way, Mateen especially…
The intensity is white hot, but this is not just a “blowout”. Melodies and themes are present. Could have been composed in the moment, since creators at this level are certainly capable of this…
An early effort from the stellar folks at 577 - If it’s on this label just buy it!
