Rezensionen
- Vor einem Jahr bearbeitetI was 28 when this one came out. Bought it the day it was available. Nothing but remixes, but all of them so fantastically good, that I still consider it a Thievery Corporation album. All these reworks appeared on various maxi-singles or CD-maxis first, but now you have them all in one package. There was just a lot going on in the dance music world in the nineties and you could literally spend your entire paycheck every week on all the goodness that saw the light of day back then. The overall sound is classy on the exclusive tip, and evokes images of high-end fashion shows, lush and sundrenched cocktail parties on the beach, relaxed Sunday afternoons with plenty of friends and good food, it just doesn't get any better than this. Listen to their remix of Pizzicato 5's Porno 3003, Gus Gus' Polyesterday or Hooverphonic's This Strange Effect, to name but a few, and you get the picture. It's exactly this kind of professionally produced music that makes me want to have a time machine sometimes. Especially those of us who experienced the club- and nightlife consciously in those days will know exactly what I mean.
- The Thievery Corporation is probably as well-known for their bass-heavy remixes as for their own work, and on ABDUCTIONS AND RECONSTRUCTIONS, they get a chance to show off some of their better pieces, such as the backbone they give to David Byrne's "Dance on Gasoline" or the dreamy take of Baaba Maal's "I Will Follow You." It's normal that they would gravitate to follow dub and reggae artists Black Uhuru, Avatars of Dub and Rockers Hi-Fi (who get a mix with a house beat), but they also bring their dub sensibility to Slide Five's "KC Doppler." More surprising is their take on Stereolab's "Tickertape Of The Unconscious" or Pizzicato 5's "Porno 3003," both of which retain vocal elements of the originals, but are now fully situated in a Thievery world. Gus Gus get "Polyesterday" funked up, while go-go proponent Ursula 1000 gets "Savoir Faire" disappears into the reverb. Their sound is unmistakable, and this collection shows why they were in such high demand.
