Rezensionen
- Ok, as much as I despise the downtempo style (usually from German origins) swiping out the whole more experimental trip hop scene, there were good things about it, and this is an example of it. It commits to all the tropes that were so irritating of the music at that time (the "organic" instruments, the repeated sample voice, the appropriation, sorry, sampling of exotic foreign sounding music cues) but Boozoo Bajou did not only have one foot in the 90s trip hop, but their soul is firmly set in dub. The whole album smokes dub, with long passages and developments that do never take any rush to get anywhere, but also remain accessible and beautiful. It's between the early Mo Horizons and the orchestral Nightmares on Wax, with minimal elements apart from a potent bassline and layers of rhythm. Tried to hate it when it was released but I definitely could not.
Seriously, this is a tremendous and the OG pressing is out of this world.
