Reviews
- Edited 11 years agoFront cover says “mixed by DJ Bim” but more than a mix most tracks are in reality soft-faded in the very last seconds. So this compilation it’s not about being a good mix but an amazingly flowing release. Yes, the key word is flow.
Disc 1 starts with a collaboration with DJ Cosmix and Elysium. The ethnic chant and mid-tempo pace add something really mystical and unique to this track and even if it’s over 12 minutes long it never becomes boring. Before you know it gently slips into Koxbox’s 1995 “Neurobic”; the transition between these 2 tracks is really good and it’s amazing how they fit each other. The beat becomes heavier with Athena’s “Woodwalking“. If you know Miranda you know it’s gonna be pounding and melodic but never noisy or overdone. As the CD flows the beat becomes faster but never too fast or too full-on.
Disc 2 is more uptempo and heavier than disc 1. It starts at large with a Pleiadians track. “Asterope” is easily the best track on their 1997 album. The second track is by Dutchman Cor Sangers, a man who has released a lot of Trance under a string of monikers. This track really surprises me – I didn’t know that this folk could do Goa this good! The track is squeezed in between “Asterope” and a Dimension 5 track and it flows perfectly! Disc ends with the dark Goa track “Donuts”, an all-time favourite of mine.
This compilation has some exclusive tracks and has tracks which made it only here as CD format. Like Cor Sangers’ track for example. It made it only here except vinyl. Or Judson J. Eiloart’s track, which is originally on a vinyl by Intastella Records, a label which always raises eyebrows when mentioned. The Ominus track other than here appears only on the overpriced CD album. I will also mention Nada Karma’s track. This is a one time collaboration and the track looks it was done exclusively for this CD. Strangely this track was released on a Rumour 4 CD set in 1999 on the “Organic Records” disc but on there is cut to 9 minutes. And a mention goes also to the Kox Box remix of Slinky Wizard’s classic. You can get it here if you don’t want to pay the dough for the overpriced old Flying Rhino CD’s.
The artwork deserves a mention too, it’s a hand-painting actually.
