- Vor 2 Monaten bearbeitetPeople seem to love this reissue, but I find it falls well short of my US 1971 Columbia reissue. The latter is truly uncanny and the tone of the instruments makes sense.
This AP reissue has a comically large soundstage, which dilutes the tone of the instruments to the point of being unrecognizable. Grab yourself a cheaper, superior US stereo copy from the 70s and enjoy!

ELAC Navis - Absolutely pristine sound. The recording of the drum set is amazing- captures all the grungy sounds you get if you were next to a real set- reverb on toms, vibration of snare wires, overtones of cymbals. Got slaps from bass strings in there. Piano has absolutely no distortion in mine, super sharp, but compared to drum kit the piano sounds under mic’d, not as much harmonic resonance. But just a fun record to snack away on the sounds.
- Is this still being pressed on 200g? I thought most AP represses were on 180g. Just curious, I bought my copy new from AS in 2020.
- Outstanding record. It’s very demanding to the equipment and certainly this explains why some reviews mention distortion. Although slightly, I could feel the age of my old oc9 mlII in a couple of high piano notes. After installing a brand new oc9-xml, days ago, this record was the reality-check of the new cartridge, and there’s only one word to describe the result: perfection.
I must add that both cartridges were professionally setup and the old OC9-mlII it’s still working great with most of my other records in a second system.
So, I’m not a technical expert but I wanted to share my experience with you. Maybe it can help some of you. - Yes. This has to be the definitive version of time out. My copy has no noise and every track sounded wonderful. Punchy, quite, and excellent dynamic sound
- No distortion on my copy, and sounds absolutely fantastic. Most certainly one of the best-sounding records I own.
Equipment: Pro-Ject Debut Pro w/ Pick it Pro Cartridge; MoFi UltraPhono - I was a bit paranoid after seeing some reviews with distortion here, but still risked it and picked it up from a local record shop when I saw it in stock since this is my favourite Jazz album, and I need a good pressing of it. Luckily, I can report that I did not notice any distortion, or audible imperfections of any kind. It sounds absolutely blissful to me, I've never heard this album with such a wide soundstage and definition. I'm not sure if there are variants of this pressing that have the distortion issue, and if there are any ways to identify them, but my copy is one of the best sounding records I've ever heard.
Reviewed with Pro-Ject X1 // Audio Technica VM750SH // SimAudio Moon 110LPV2 - All those complaining about distortion in the piano, have you ever heard another press? the distortion is in the recording!
