Rezensionen
- Great sounding reissue, well worth getting for any fan of this album but my copy was noisy! My UK pressing from 1962 plays cleaner. It seems other people had better luck than me with this record.
- I think that this is an digital transfer but it sounds great. I think that RKS made an excelent job making this mono pressing. An early analog reissue sounds better, but this sounds really good to me.
- If you can't afford the UHQR version (or don't want to shell out the bucks ), I highly recommend this Mono version. This release sounds extraordinary! No issues with my copy.
- Great sound quality. Very minimal background noise. I would recommend this pressing to any fan of the music.
- Don't forget that Sony developed DSD for, in essence, this very album, as a means of archiving it in the highest fidelity, assuming that the tapes were so fragile that they were a difficult tool to rely on. I bought a Sony SCD-1 when it first appeared on the market and immediately bought this SACD which was released in 1999, stereo, single layer, it's on the Discogs listing for Kind of Blue, I still have it and it sounds fabulous, as it should, considering the degree of attention that was lavished on the creation of the DSD version of this. The SONY SCD-1 SACD player came out in 99 as well. To monstrous excitement. I bought one of the first ones to enter my community, through its dealer. I scarfed up lots of those early Sony single layer SACD's, like Boston. Unfortunately, though the thing was very well bult it seemed like, it broke, about 2 years after acquisition. You will find a long review of the piece in Stereophile online, It's a fascinating read, almost time travel actually. Recall that in 99, the internet was new and social media was nascent. The SACD's were often it seemed bright but not this album, again, I have the SACD and its marvelous. It's certainly fair to assume that it was the basis for this particular pressing, which I think sounds very fine indeed.
- Surface noise detracts from the listening experience. Would otherwise be terrific. As others mention, it seems quality control was not great for this pressing.
- Contrary to popular belief that this 2013 Mono version is all analog, I have to disagree. While the sound of this issue is excellent, to my ear it sounds digitally sourced. At times the sound is so deep that It would have you fooled, but alas it shares a ruler flat sound signature associated with digital. After inspection of the spectrogram the realization this version is digitally sourced was cemented. With that out of the way, this is still a good reissue overall. The sound is deep and extremely clear. RKS did an excellent job here. My copy is dead silent and flat. RTI is one of the best pressing plants in the world so this was expected. Due to the fact this album is not cut from an analog source I would have to highly suggest no one pays the inflated prices of $50 and above for this version. Go for the Analog Productions version or an original copy.
- Second copy was the one for me. First had five very noticeable clicks at the end of So What. The second copy is great - mono is crisp and soundstage is life-like. Very enjoyable.
- Sound quality is great - as others have said, at this price point, you don't really NEED to "upgrade".
