The Beatles are no strangers to the monthly most expensive lists, so it makes sense that they appear on the year-end roundup. Their debut album Please, Please Me is on the list four times. Three of the listings are the coveted “Dick James Credits” version, with one copy selling for so much money that it cracked the top five for the whole year. Rare pressings of Introducing…The Beatles and The Beatles & Frank Ifield On Stage also fetched high enough sums to secure spots on the top 50 most expensive records of 2022. 

The abundance of soul 45s on the list also comes as no surprise as they regularly sell for top dollar on Discogs. Releases from Papa Bear And The Cubs, Rita & The Tiaras, and Marvin Preyer are among the many soul records that attracted the attention of serious collectors. Rita & The Tiaras are worth singling out because two versions of their Gone With The Wind Is My Love / Wild Times 7-inch are featured on the list. 

Classical collectors may be some of the most dedicated fans out there. A box set of Mozart compositions was the most expensive item purchased on Discogs in 2022. An interpretation of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto and a triple LP of George Enesco’s take on Bach’s Sonatas also placed in the top 15.
