Top 25 Most Expensive Items Sold on Discogs in January 2024
From a rare Germs 7” to a Disco Mix Club promo tape, these are the most expensive releases sold on Discogs in January 2024.
The most valuable releases sold on Discogs in January 2024 include rare punk 7”s, collectible box sets, a hard-to-find cassette promo, and an elusive CDr.
Highly collectible punk 7”s from the Germs, Negative Approach, and Minor Threat all ended up in the top 25, with the Germs’ “Lexicon Devil” securing the highest ranking of the bunch at No. 13. The Lexicon Devil 7” was originally pressed with four different colored sleeves, and the goldenrod version featured here inspired a collector to pay top dollar for this vital piece of punk history.
Box sets from Pearl Jam, Ozzy Osbourne, and Bad Religion also made the most expensive list in January 2024. The Pearl Jam box set is currently the only way for fans to buy the Oct. 22, 2003 – Benaroya Hall live album on vinyl. The Ozzy Osbourne and Bad Religion collections both include albums that were previously out of print or unavailable on vinyl. For anyone looking for a reissue of Bad Religion’s prog rock experiment Into The Unknown, the self-titled box set contains the only official version besides the original pressing.
Vinyl usually dominates the most expensive list, but January 2024 also saw other formats sold for high sums. A rare cassette compilation from DMC (Disco Mix Club) came in at No.14. Originally released in 1983, this promo tape features remixed versions of funk, soul, and hip-hop tracks that were crafted to pack the dancefloor.
A CDr from Tobias Forge sold with such a hefty price tag that it landed a spot in the top 5. Even though the format isn’t always found amongst the most valuable items on Discogs, the music contained on this particular CDr has never been released publicly. That means that this extremely rare CDr is the only way to hear this unreleased album from the Ghost frontman.
Other notable releases include the spiritual jazz of World’s Experience Orchestra, the avant-garde stylings of Italian composer Sandro Brugnolini, and the infectious soul of the Rhythm Machine.
