Top 25 Most Expensive Items Sold on Discogs in November 2023
The most expensive records sold on Discogs in November 2023 include jazz rarities, Japanese psych rock, and hard-to-find 7-inches.
Regular readers of Discogs’ most expensive lists will know that rare jazz records frequently claim a few spots each month. In November 2023, sought-after jazz releases from Mitsuaki Kanno and the Stark Reality both landed in the top 25. The Stark Reality record is especially intriguing, capturing the jazz-rock band recording heavily improvised renditions of Hoagy Carmichael songs for a children’s show that aired on PBS. And while the album was reissued in 2022, serious collectors are still willing to pay top dollar for an original 1970 pressing.
This month’s list also includes a few psychedelic rock records released by Japanese artists. The sole album from acid folk group Sohkangoh is a private press record released back in 1971 which has never been reissued. Similarly, the Japanese hard rock band Beat makes the list because only one pressing of their album from 1978 currently exists, and collectors are willing to go to great lengths to secure a copy.
Elsewhere on this month’s list are 7-inches from a wide array of genres. A rare punk EP from the Zero Boys, an obscure ska 7-inch from Don Drummond and Lord Creator, and a promo single from AC/DC all made the top 25 in November 2023.
Additional noteworthy releases include a 2022 reissue of Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle featuring limited-edition artwork and the Rock Hard 7-inch from Fallout, the band that Peter Steele and Josh Silver played in before forming Type O Negative.
