Top 25 Most Expensive Items Sold on Discogs in October 2023
The October 2023 most expensive list features rare releases from Led Zeppelin, Westside Gunn, The Beatles, and The Damned.
The list of most expensive records sold on Discogs in October 2023 includes rare classic rock albums, hard-to-find punk records, and some obscure soul 45s.
Rare versions of iconic albums from The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience all made the top 25 most expensive list this month. The version of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band listed below is an incredibly rare audiophile pressing that was only available at an Australian hi-fi and audio show in 1983. Also extremely rare, the pressing of The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s Electric Ladyland highlighted here features a “ghost text” back cover. If you look closely, you can see a rejected tracklist underneath the songs listed on the back of the jacket.
Collectible punk records are a staple of the most expensive list and October 2023 was no exception. A rare Japanese pressing of The Damned’s Neat Neat Neat single and an original pressing of the sole release from P.I.G.Z. both made the cut. The latter’s Bloody Belgium EP is especially intriguing because 55 copies were pressed on colored vinyl by accident. As the plant was pressing the EP, a cleaning solution was added to the machine and a small batch of records came out with colored vinyl. With colors ranging from transparent white to dark pink, each copy is unlike any other.
Soul 45s claimed multiple spots in the top 25 once again as records from Fortson & Scott, Vickie Labat, Jelly, and William Powell all sold for big bucks. Most of these obscure soul records don’t come with a lot of information, but you can check out the videos included on each release page and see why serious collectors shell out top dollar for these rare gems.
Other notable releases include a minimalist masterwork from Su Tissue and Arspenlian Reeves, a massive Ozzy Osbourne box set, and a rare record that features the infectious salsa sounds of Ruben Rivera And His Orchestra.
