The Best-Selling Records on Discogs in 2024 So Far

Dig into the best-selling records of the first half of 2024, featuring releases from Noah Kahan, Massive Attack, Taylor Swift, and Young Thug.
With the first half of 2024 complete, a picture of the best-selling albums of the year is emerging. While there will no doubt be new additions and upsets throughout 2024’s B-side, these 25 records are the current chart-toppers.
Record Store Day releases make up a large portion here. However, there are still a few long-time Discogs’ favorites that cracked the list, including two Massive Attack records, and Tracy Chapman‘s tried-and-true self-titled album, which received a sales bump following the singer’s performance of “Fast Car” with Luke Combs at the Grammys.
A special shoutout goes to Taylor Swift‘s Tortured Poet’s Department. While the record has been a mainstay on our monthly best-selling lists, its sales have been split between several vinyl variants and editions, meaning no single version made the top 25. For those interested, the current best-selling variant of the album is a tie between the US and European “Black Dog” versions, which have slight cosmetic differences. Swift’s Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions did come in at seventh place though.
Other notable releases include Pearl Jam‘s Dark Matter, which is the only new record of the year on this list that isn’t an RSD release, a reissue of the late-great Nujabe‘s Modal Soul, and classic picks like Sade‘s Diamond Life and Frank Ocean‘s Blonde.

Stick Season / Lacy
Olivia Rodrigo & Noah Kahan
2024
Since RSD, Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan‘s cover-for-cover split has been at or near the top of the Discogs’ charts. Recorded in 2023 at BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, Kahan puts a folksy spin on Rodrigo’s “Lacy,” and in turn, Rodrigo takes on Kahan’s “Stick Season.” It’s become a must-have record for any pop fan‘s collection.
#2
Waiting In The Sky (Before The Starman Came To Earth)
David Bowie
2024
This RSD mammoth of a release features every track from David Bowie‘s The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, plus four songs that didn’t make the final album. It also comes with an alternative track listing. For Bowie listeners, it’s a must-cop.
#3
Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman
1988
Tracy Champman’s self-titled record is a true classic. However, Chapman has long resided in a private world, with few appearances and recordings the last several years. The record’s lead single, “Fast Car,” has gained a second life after modern country star Luke Combs released a cover version last year, introducing many listeners to Chapman’s work for the first time.
The cover has led to Chapman becoming the first Black woman to land a country number one with a solo composition and the first Black woman to take home an award at the CMAs.
#4
Live At SoFi Stadium
The Weeknd
2024
The Weeknd‘s first live album received a physical release for RSD. Recorded in 2022 and then released as an HBO special the following year, this career-spanning triple LP contains versions of hits like “The Hills Have Eyes,” “Take My Breath,” “Starboy,” “After Hours,” “Blinding Lights,” and more.
#5
Jeffery
Young Thug
2024
A trap essential, Young Thug‘s 2016 release Jeffery rounds out the top five for the year so far. This RSD release marks the first time the Atlanta-based rapper has repressed his fourth mixtape since 2017. Limited to 6,000 copies, this variant comes on blue galaxy vinyl, which perfectly matches Thug’s iconic cover outfit.
