The Best-Selling Records on Discogs This Week: November 1, 2024

Dig into this week’s best-selling records, featuring releases from Aphex Twin, Tyler, The Creator, Bob Dylan, Geordie Greep, and more.
This week on Discogs, Tyler, The Creator‘s new record unsurprisingly tops the chart, plenty of collectors picked up a Japanese techno archival compilation captivates with coolness, Bob Dylan & The Band lovers got the reissue they’ve always wanted, and more.
The splashiest headline in music right now is the teasing and release of Tyler, The Creator’s new record, Chromakopia. A master of world-building, Tyler’s latest creation is full of musings from his mother and his own thoughts on aging, children, and paranoia. Tyler also made fans triple-check their calendars as he released his record on Monday instead of the customary Friday, a call back to the early week release days of yesteryear.
Other unique entries on the top-selling releases include Gen Z’s favorite punk band Amyl and the Sniffers‘ new record Cartoon Darkness, Charli XCX‘s return to the charts with her remix record Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat, and a selection of Troubleneck Brothers demos in the form of Love/Hate.

Chromakopia
Tyler, The Creator
2024
When Tyler speaks, we listen. That seems to be the mantra with each passing Tyler, The Creator record. Chromakopia is no exception. The auteur first teased the record in mid-October and followed up with a several singles.
Among the singles, Tyler centered on vinyl. On October 22, the artist posted the video “CHROMAKOPIA VINYL” on YouTube. The video depicts Tyler dancing to snippets of the songs “Like Him,’ “Rah Tah Tah,” and “Take Your Mask Off” after dropping the needle. The description of the video calls out a test pressing version, limited to 100,000 numbered copies, of the record as well. The vinyl version also features an exclusive Playboi Carti verse on “Thought I Was Dead.

The 1974 Live Recordings: The Missing Songs From Before the Flood
Bob Dylan & The Band
2024
As part of the Third Man Vault 15th Anniversary, the vinyl subscription service has released this compilation of Bob Dylan & The Band tracks from their 1974 stadium tour. This release features three LPs and one 7″, totaling 26 tracks.
Third Man has also included a 1970s-style souvenir tour book. The book is 20 pages long and features photos taken during the tour, era-appropriate graphics, and archival material.
#3
Moon Music
Coldplay
2024
At the beginning of the month, Coldplay released their tenth studio album, Moon Music. The record is a thematic follow-up to their previous release, Music of the Spheres. Around the same time as Moon Music‘s release, frontman Chris Martin told fans that the band would only record 12 albums before hanging things up.
Two of the limited-edition Moon Music pressings are made out of recycled bottles. The “EcoRecords” come in yellow, green, pink, and red variants and weigh 140 grams. According to the band, nine recycled plastic bottles make up each record. However, it’s the zoetrope version that fans gravitated (pun intended) to most, though.

Virtual Dreams II (Ambient Explorations in the House & Techno Age, Japan 1993-1999)
Various
2024
The second installment in archival label Music From Memory‘s “Virtual Dreams” series narrows in on Japan’s first forays into club culture following their 1980s ambient boom. While breakbeat and acid spread across Europe and the U.S., Japan took a subtler approach, leaning deeper into chill-out room culture than pure frenetic excitement.
Curated by Eiji Taniguchi and the late Jamie Tiller, Virtual Dreams II is a thoughtfully crafted compilation. It features revered artists like Dub Squad and Yukihiro Fukutomi, and it marks the first time several of the tracks have made their way from CD to vinyl.
#5
Selected Ambient Works Volume II
Aphex Twin
2024
Most of Aphex Twin’s SAW II is a soundtrack to the space between wakefulness and sleep. Unsettling and dreamy, each of the record’s 20-plus tracks are distinct vignettes that fit the cold, rusty vibe of the album cover.
Originally, SAW II was recognized as important — it sold more than 60,000 copies outside the US in its first year alone — and its accolades have only grown over time. For this 30th anniversary reissue, Warp Records pulled out all the stops: fold-outs, stickers, and high-quality packaging. It’s the perfect pickup for any hardcore Aphex Twin fan.
