The Best-Selling Records on Discogs This Week: October 25, 2024
Dig into this week’s best-selling records, featuring releases from Anastasia Screamed, Blood Incantation, Panda Bear, Chappell Roan, and more.
This week on Discogs, Blood Incantation and Aphex Twin continue to sell well, a surprise shoutout from Karate‘s Geoff Farina sends a record up the charts, and more.
The most notable trend this week concerns One Direction. After Liam Payne‘s unfortunate passing earlier this week, One Direction fans picked up the band’s records in remembrance. Five releases related to Payne made the top five, with many more landing just outside.
Other notable entries on the top-selling releases include the new Panda Bear single, a selection of dubplates from King Tubby‘s studio courtesy of Prince Philip, and a sales bump for Greek singer and politician Nana Mouskouri‘s The Girl From Greece Sings following her recent retirement announcement.

Laughing Down The Limehouse
Anastasia Screamed
1990
Karate frontman Geoff Farina recently called Anastasia Screamed‘s Laughing Down The Limehouse a perfect record on Pitchfork‘s Instagram. While discussing the album, he mentioned that it had low ratings on Discogs and often sells for under $3. Within 24 hours, sales started rolling in.
Laughing Down the Limehouse, released in 1990, is the debut record of the Boston band Anastasia Screamed. The alt-rock band released one other full-length, 1991’s Moontime, before splitting up the following year. Following the breakup, lead singer Chick Graning, whose voice Farina praises in the Instagram video, formed Scarce.

Selected Ambient Works Volume II
Aphex Twin
2024
Most of Aphex Twin’s SAW II is a soundtrack to the space between wakefulness and sleep. Unsettling and dreamy, each of the record’s 20-plus tracks are distinct vignettes that fit the cold, rusty vibe of the album cover.
Originally, SAW II was recognized as important — it sold more than 60,000 copies outside the US in its first year alone — and its accolades have only grown over time. For this 30th anniversary reissue, Warp Records pulled out all the stops: fold-outs, stickers, and high-quality packaging. It’s the perfect pickup for any hardcore Aphex Twin fan.
#3
Absolute Elsewhere
Blood Incantation
2024
Gnarly, psychedelic, and brutal, Blood Incantation’s Absolute Elsewhere combines the ambient passages of their Timewave Zero album with the gutteralness of their 2019 release, Hidden History of the Human Race. Across two side-length movements (“The Stargate” and “The Message”), the band asserts their dominance in the niche but growing world of cosmic death metal.
For the release, the band went all in on limited editions. There are currently five, with the gold version listed here. Most versions are out-of-stock on the Discogs Marketplace, but record-hunters can add any edition to their Wantlist to get notified when the releases show up. Alternatively, fans can pick up the standard version here.
#4
Take Me Home
One Direction
2021
One Direction’s sophomore effort, Take Me Home, was the best-selling of the five Liam Payne-related releases this week. When Take Me Home was released, it skyrocketed up the charts in multiple countries, mirroring the impact the group’s first record, Up All Night, had.
This pressing, released in 2021, marked the first time the group’s second album dropped on vinyl. An Urban Outfitters exclusive, it comes with two translucent records with white swirls.
#5
“Defense b/w Virginia Tech”
Panda Bear
Panda Bear’s long-awaited solo return has begun. The Animal Collective frontman hasn’t released a solo, full-length record in five years. In support of his upcoming album Sinister Gift, due out February 28, he’s dropped a new double-sided single.
On Side A’s “Defense,” Panda pairs up with Cindy Lee, one of this year’s most critically acclaimed indie rock stars. Side B’s “Virginia Tech” is a musically upbeat solo affair about the fear of feeling lost.
