I agree. Even the 1980's vibe can't stop this album from being totally gorgeous, both in melody and atmosphere. A couple of the tracks are - in my opinion - up there with the best of 1970's Focus, namely "Indian Summer", "King Kong" and "Who's Calling ?". Brilliant !

I have long thought this was a 1985 reunion of Focus. But it seemed to be a Jan Akkerman and Thijs van Leer album called Focus. But it's still Focus no matter how you look at it, Thijs van Leer was the only constant member of Focus from when they formed in 1969 to when they released Focus con Proby in 1978. Jan Akkerman were obviously on their classic albums. So this 1985 album is basically Focus updated for the 1980s. They included a bunch of musicians helping them out, so you get 1980s drum machines and Thijs van Leer, luckily still using his flute, but not the Hammond organ, but instead the Yamaha DX-7. "Russian Roulette" sounds like something out of In & Out of Focus, had it been recorded in 1985. "King Kong" is actually a nice piece, despite the drum machine, especially the flute playing. "Le Tango" is more rocking, while "Beethoven's Revenge" is just absolutely loaded with the DX-7. This would be enough to cause fans of Moving Waves and Focus III to go running towards the hills if they have an aversion to that '80s sound. I really like that closing piece "Who's Calling" showing that medieval style that Jan Akkerman so loves. Yes, I wished Pierre van der Linden was here giving his drumming skills, instead of a drum machine. So don't buy this album if you have an aversion towards the 1980s. This I'd only recommend if you don't mind the Focus sound updated for the 1980s.
