This record has been sampled so so many times. XON,Altern 8,Nexus 21 and 808 State to name but a few loved this vintage Electro gem. We all love a good sample, and the king of the samples was the late 80s early 90s for sure.

OMFG, I've only just discovered this on the Cari Lekebusch podcast for Speedy J's electric deluxe series. I'll never listen to 808 State's "Donkey doctor" the same way again! It samples huge chunks of this.

I dont remember this on the radio at the time in London either on Mike Allen or Westwood, possibly as it didnt fit in with Pretty Tony, The B-Boys or the Fearless four. Only knew it as when the streetsounds electro 4 album came out, this was on the end , and what a perfect ending to one of the more odd mixes in the series. I thought this could've been perfect in Blade Runner, I wasnt old enough to club but used to dream to Cybotron records like this.

This record shows an exciting tension in today's listening experience. In spite of a romantic kind of irony the music has a futuristic, utopian appeal to it. The irony must have already been there for the listener of 1984 (think also of an album like Kraftwerk's 'Computer World'). But for today's listener an awareness of things past is added to this. It is not so much an awareness of older times and art in general, but especially a recognition of the period in which this record was made. The sound of electronic music of the 1980's is nowadays tapped into from a new perspective (or it is bluntly copied). A track like 'Techno City' at the same time directs us towards the future and the past. It is however only able to do this under one condition, that it is and remains to be astonishing and beautiful music.
