Críticas
- That Berlin concert/performance: Disappointment of the century. Lame "concept", boring audio and some of the (drumming) extras pretending they were the stars of the show. Better stick to your german shepherds, Jordi!
- Editado hace 12 añosIt's perhaps appropriate that the front side of this picture disc features an image of a bomb, given that a live VDO performance leaves one with the feeling of having survived something akin to an explosion.
The performance at the Arnolfini in Bristol where this disc saw its release was as much of a joyously insane spectacle as one could ever hope to witness - a beautiful cello performance giving way to a ranting Jim Jones, himself drowned out by a thunderous cacophony of martial drumming directed by an almost blissful Jordi Valls.
As the drummers made their way down from the stalls to stand in front of the crowd and continue their relentless beat, Valls took to the stage - taped applause booming through the PA - and took up his baseball bat. As the mirror panes shattered sending shards of glass flying all around, the toilet-paper crucifix which had been built in front of the stage on the floor of the auditorium was dismantled and turned into an ariel bombardment of bog-roll, streamers of poo-paper everywhere. The mirrors continued to shatter, and the beat most decidedly went on.
The very definition of destruction as an act of creation, nihilism as a sheer, exhuberant celebration of life and existence, there really is nothing else quite like a VDO performance, and I consider myself not a little blessed to have been lucky enough witness one.
The recording on this release of the earlier Berlin performance does very much give at least an impression of the experience, and is well worth aquiring if at all possible, though given its very limited nature that will almost certainly be easier said than done.
