Don't jump on the hype bandwagon. Head straight for Porte De Bagnolet remix from 1993. A stunning version by Ralf Hildenbeutel. 30 years later it still stands tallest above the zillion of other versions.

One of the greatest trance tracks of all time, has just turned 30 years old.

It was produced by DJ Kid Paul & Cosmic Baby, and named after a famous Ibiza beach bar.

Since it's first release on Matthias Hoffmann (Brainchild, Cygnus X) & Sven Väth's Eye Q Records in May 1993, it has been featured on more than 1000 compilations!! It has furthermore been re-released as a single more than 150 times, on major labels such as Renaissance, Bonzai, Hooj Choons, Lost Language, ID&T and Superstition

It has of course been remixed, covered and bootlegged by many leading producers through the years too, including Oliver Lieb, Fragma, deadmau5, Solarstone., John 00 Fleming, Hybrid, Paul Oakenfold, Shiloh, Tale Of Us, Binary Finary, Vini Vici, Paul Van Dyk, Marco V, Jon the Dentist, Nalin & Kane, Humate, Three n' One and many many more.

What most people don't know is that, Café Del Mar is an uncredited cover of, a classical composition from 1983 called Struggle for Pleasure, written by Wim Mertens of Soft Verdict.
-A piece that has also been covered by Minimalistix and several others.

Energy 52 was a relatively shortlived project, and they released a few singles only. Café Del Mar was their final opus, before parting ways, to continue individually on other projects.

Kid Paul, who started his musical career in the late 80s, producing acid house, and DJ'ing at clubs like Tresor in Berlin, was also known as Velocity, where he produced the huge trance classics Lust and Future.

Kid Paul also used other aliases like Paul M and City Child, where he produced everything from techno to ambient and drum n bass, but sadly haven't released any new material since the late 90s.

Cosmic Baby, who is a trained concert pianist, started his musical career as a 7 year old, when he began at the Nürnberg conservatorium.
Later he entered the Art Academy in Berlin, and he also studied audio engineering at the technical university.

Since the early 80s, he has released music in various genres, and has been involved in many other projects, for example Futurythm together with VOOV and Jonzon, and The Visions Of Shiva with Paul Van Dyk, where they produced the two hits Perfect Day and How Much Can You Take?

Cosmic Baby is still active, mainly producing modern classical and ambient as Harald Blüchel.

I looking for a version of this song with a women, who sings something about a men on the moon. I know my request is weird, but it's so long ago and can't really remember something else.

One of the major tunes of the 90's in the UK. Mr Smiths in Warrington smashed this out on a Thursday night every week. The original release is the one to stick with

Does this really need all these remixes and repressings?. Should have ended at the Three 'N One Remix in 97. Always thought remixes of classics stunk a bit of desperation. Just to stress I have no issues with the original version and 97 mixes, they took a great tune and remixed it into arguably the biggest trance tune of all time and at that point it could never get any better. Do something new. Remix any classic and it will probably sell well but its still all a bit naff imo.
                • i bought the 1997s URBAN Remix version back in mid 1997 and was impressed

the best version is from 97 especially the three n one mix

First time I heard this tune was on the Mayday event in Dortmund in 1993 - I think that some know the video from that moment :)
