The last week or so, Tagscanner can connect to Discogs for album info, but all covers are crosses.
So there is a connection but without albumart.

Anyone else having this issue? I use the latest version of TagScanner (6.1.17)
  • Neutrone64 3 months ago

Hi, TagScanner with Discogs doesn't show me the covers, but on MusicBrainz it does. I don't understand, up until 1 month ago it didn't even work with the same version.
  • Jeroenert 3 months ago

Hi, that workaround works indeed. The thing is, I prefer Discogs, it's faster and better :)

¿Ninguna respuesta todavía? He descargado el software hace poco y llevaba loco días intentando encontrar el error de las portadas. Espero que se pongan manos a la obra y puedan solucionarlo. Si alguien tiene alguna noticia... que informe ! :)

Tagscanner is russian software, thats why.
  • JalousGuy 3 months ago

For a month, same for me, no covers with Discogs : "Unknown protocol".
With MusicBrainz, no pb, I get the cover.
The Dev answer me the problem is Discogs.
Could Discogs have a check in their system, or make an annoncement about this?
    Thank you so much ;)

We could start a worldwide movement known as "the rebellion of music collectors" against Discogs for their inaction / lack of information regarding this very serious problem with their interaction with TagScanner. Is there any way to bring this problem to the attention of the Discogs developers other than by posting a message here on this forum? I haven't seen any contact section or to send suggestions for improvement...

Yes we need that. But is it Discogs or TagScanner? I suspect the last one.

Hi, I have opened the following query with the Discogs developers. I'll see what they tell me and I'll let you know. I've mentioned this thread so that you can see that it's not a mistake or a specific problem of mine.

mmmm so it is possible that with an old version of TagScanner it can work correctly? I love these updates that serve to stop the program from working properly (note the irony). The bad thing would be that the old versions would stop working when a new version comes out :S

Tried downloading 6.1.14 and 6.1.16 and they both have the same issue.

It's up to TagScanner to work with Discogs API and not the other way around. Have you thought of contacting the former rather than blaming the latter? How's the worldwide movement going?

    P.S. MP3Tag works just fine.

Yes, I contacted TagScanner and they responded indicating that the problem was with Discogs... well, the usual... Discogs has not yet responded to the ticket I opened reporting this situation. The global movement is dead... I was expecting massive support for my revolutionary idea but it hasn't happened, I see myself alone in this war. I was previously a Mp3Tag user but looking for convenience, speed and execution of the process in fewer steps... even being able to create automation scripts for this process, the Tagscanner interface makes the task much simpler and faster... except for the problem that it doesn't drag the cover art of course.
  • kjmacphee 2 months ago

Discogs will have no response to why your favourite 3rd party application doesn't work. Maybe something changed since 11 April 2024 when TagScanner last released an update?

TagScanner developer's response to the email sent reporting this problem:

"Hi,I receive many reports about this problem. Discogs changed something on their side. Currently I can't understand why Discogs stops returning image urls even for authenticated requests because it works for me and some other users. May you exceed limit to 60 requests per minute and Discogs banned your account. Which Windows are you using? Do you have correct regional setting and timezone?

Are we at a dead end?
  • kjmacphee 2 months ago

May you exceed limit to 60 requests per minute and Discogs banned your account.

They have zero idea what they are talking about. Your personal account is not used when accessing images from Discogs through a 3rd party app. Thankfully they stopped short of "have you tried turning it off and then back on again?"
  • Tarantul 2 months ago

    Hi,I am Tagscanner developer.

In fact discogs don't allow to download covers in Russia due to requests blocked by Cloudflare, but I get image urls from api. And when I use VPN (different locations) I can dowload images.
My question about timezone respect to known issue with requests signature.

There is no official anouncements about any changes in API.
My assumption was that Discogs changed rate limit algorithm and starts control not only IP and user-agent but user token.

Also this problem not only with my application https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/1083793
And its look like Discogs broke sothething because their official app not worked https://www.discogs.com/forum/topic/19

Discogs also changed unicode encoding inside release response so non-latin chars not showed correctly (easy to fix).

P.S. I know mp3tag still works with Discogs but it use own caching server to proxy requests to covers.
  • jarredou 2 months ago

    really boring situation...
Allo discogs ???!!! FIX YOUR SHIT !!!
  • hblaster 2 months ago

I also wrote to the developer and he told me it was Discogs' fault... I hope they fix it, it's horrible having to put the covers manually.

    user token.

Apps need Authentication to get images, not sure if that changed. (edit - I see you have that.)

But as you say, it seems likely they have blocked your app one way ot the other, don't you think?

App no blocked. All OAuth steps works. Images don't work for some users but but for some including me they works.
  • Vinyl-Vibe about 1 month ago

We encountered the same issue for https://www.cratebase.io and we managed to fix it - Discogs made a small unannounced (and probably unintended) change to the API and the way you format the timestamp in the header of your requests. It makes no sense at all, but that is the issue that causes the release response to come in without image urls and that is the way to fix it.

still NOT working here. I'm happy for those of you who appear to have it "fixed" but it is most certainly not "fixed" for everyone
  • dobrejakcyp about 1 month ago

I wouldn't say it is fixed, per se. Yes, it works somehow, but it's obvious that the speed of getting data is slower. At least on my end. But still better than nothing.
  • rob7string about 1 month ago

Also still not working for me.
