The Man Who Lived Underground, the third album from the Freaks, shows off their sense of humor much more than their previous two, while still maintaining high quality. “The Washing Machine” is not a updating of the Cajmere classic “The Percolator,” but is a creation of its very own. “Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?” is a wonderful vocal track, mysterious and sexy, while “The Creeps (You’re Giving Me)” goes for all-out freaky. “Lovehate” is a list of all things loved and hated -- you’ll end up loving it too. Sadly, many promising tracks are cut short, like “What’s the Point,” which makes the album as a whole somewhat of a mixed bag. But it’s a bag you won’t mind dipping into again and again.
