Notes:
Initial run of 10,000 copies was housed in a textured cover, pressed by the WEA pressing plant in West Drayton and sold until October 1979. Another 10,000 copies were sold until Mid 1980. Reissued / repressed again in July 1980 (so that until July 1981, 77.523 copies were pressed in total). The Townhouse edition is from late 1980. Later confirmed represses from 1981 and 1983.

Peaked at # 71 in the UK Album Charts in August 1980.

Recorded in April 1979 at Strawberry Studios, Stockport. Also recorded during these sessions were the tracks "Autosuggestion" and "From Safety To Where...?" (both released on Earcom 2) as well as "Exercise One", "The Only Mistake", "Walked In Line" and "The Kill" (all later released on Still).

Outside is side A and Inside is side B. This however got mixed up by the pressing plant, assigning Outside = B and Inside = A in the runouts.

The centre sleeve depicts "100 consecutive pulses from the pulsar CP 1919", taken from an image that Bernard Sumner found in 'The Cambridge Encyclopaedia of Astronomy' (page 111, 1977 edition), which was a reproduction of a visualization created by Harold D. Craft, Jr., for his dissertation “Radio Observations of the Pulse Profiles and Dispersion Measures of Twelve Pulsars,” (September 1970).

A true classic album at the start of electronic music. I have no problem at all with the pressing, for me it sounds perfectly fine.

Have bought and returned this edition at least three times (brand new). Every single time, both first 2 tracks of each sides have an astronomical amount of skipping to the point that it is not even possible to listen to it. I have tried many different turntables, absolutely no chance. Same issue with the 2015 "Closer" Vynil Collector 180g reissue.

"Vinyl appears black but when held up to a light it may appear translucent purple, reddish/brown, brown, green or grey. Note that the light source can affect the color seen." It's BLACK, I own this copy there is no colour held to the light, it's BLACK!.

Unknown Pleasures left you unsettled,Closer gave an uncertain calmness and Still was a weird conclusion,as if the underdog lost in a poker-game ,grabbing all the chips.....got shot in his endeavour and left a beautiful corpse,....still,encapsulated one of the most beautiful covers (first run of 5000) ever made.....even the standard editions are a beauty of design.

Can anyone offer solid reliable info on which is the best sounding CD version to get? i.e. as uncompressed and natural sounding as possible!
And whilst on the subject, same info for Closer CD too!
Are the 2007 2CD versions any good?

As you can see on one of the pictures, it is written on the sleeve "Shadowpaly", and not " Shadowplay".
That's the kind of detail that means quality.
Overall, it's bad.

I compared (on twin decks) this new red pressing with my original 'Porky', cut by the master George Peckham. The 2019 Red version sounds like the 2008 remaster. Very compressed top end and vocals, too much reverb and lacks the depth and 'space' of the original. The further we get from it's inception, the further we get from Hannett and Peckhams original vision. If you really want to hear it find yourself a 'Porky Prime Cut'.
