Special Request kicks off his second album, BELIEF SYSTEM, on the melodic, ambient note of "Chrysalis" that seems to harken back to Detroit before "Adel Crag Microdot" and "Scrambled In LS1" bring in the bass and old-skool electro rave flavors. An angular melody comes over "Catacombs," which reaches into "Tiresias." Darkness overtakes the thick landscape of "Sanctuary" and "Leviathan," but lightens once we get to the sample-based and melancholic "Change." But it's not until "Curtain Twitcher" that we get the first full throwback, an acid-tinged banger, while "Make It Real" and "Brainstorm" throw in the breaks. A sci-fi elements emerges on "Replicant (Nexus 7 VIP)" and "Light In The Darkest Hour" emphasizes it even more as it brings the first disc to an end. The second disc offers a more ambient, soundtrack-based listening experience, with strings as the dominant instruments, as "Carex Vesicaria" opens up its resonant spaces, allowing "Advent" to rumble through before the throb of "Witness" takes over. The thick wobble of "Transmission" nods at dubstep while maintaining a beatless roll, but "Reckoning" lets those hits come in strong. "Qoriqzona" is all abstract growls, but "Five Lane Ends" lets its haunting tones counter the harsh bass stabs. Finally, "In Loving Memory" ends the album on a melodic note, one that recalls earlier motifs. This will make you a believer!
