Ed Michel

Profil:

American musician, engineer, producer, and record company executive from Los Angeles, California born in 1936. Mainly produced jazz and blues recordings since 1957. Collaborations with many jazz musicians, from Louis Armstrong to John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker and Miles Davis. Also credited as photographer.

Started in industry as an assistant engineer to Richard Bock and Val Valentin. Joined Muntz Stereo-Pak, Inc. as Associate Director of the Music Department in February, 1966. He left do freelance producing and joined ABC-Dunhill Records, Inc. in early 1969 as their jazz and blues specialist. After Bob Thiele left to establish Flying Dutchman, Michel took over management of Impulse!, Bluesway and Apt Records in 1970. He was also Chief Producer and A&R Director for those labels until 1975. After leaving ABC, he did freelance production work, often in partnership with Eric Miller (6), notably at A&M's Horizon (3), Warner Bros. Records, Artists House, and Fantasy's sub-labels Galaxy and Contemporary Records.
