Deep Purple

Profil:
Hard Rock band from Hertford, England (United Kingdom).

The band formed in 1968. Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although some band members believe that their music cannot be categorised as belonging to any one genre. They were once listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as "the loudest pop group", and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Deep Purple were ranked #22 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock programme.

Deep Purple were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

Mixing heavy blues with wild psychedelia, Deep Purple helped invent modern hard rock. Since forming in '68, they've sold millions of albums and influenced countless bands despite a series of dizzying lineup changes. Legendary shredder Ritchie Blackmore and gifted shouter Ian Gillan led the band from '69 through '73, releasing era-defining albums like Machine Head. Later incarnations would feature guitar hero Tommy Bolin and metal heartthrob David Coverdale, but Blackmore and Gillan would finally return in '84. The group continues to record and tour, having lost none of its passion. Deep Purple are responsible for some of the most recognizable guitar riffs ever recorded. They've had many hits during their 40 year career. But along with the singles, there have also been many great album tracks, some of which eventually became concert staples. This mix includes music from their self-titled debut through their comeback record, 1984's Perfect Strangers. There's a chunky layer of R&B and blues buried within Deep Purple's hard rock. It rises to the surface on tracks like “The Painter” (a husky psychedelic-soul gem grounded in British beat music's rave-up energy) and “Sail Away” (which uses stinging funk and squawking synths influenced by early-'70s Stevie Wonder). In the 21st century, the wildly raw “Junkyard Blues” finds the vets digging into greasy boogie and roadhouse piano.

"The loudest band in history"...."Posh Mans Led Zeppelin"....whatever people say deep purple were one of the founders of rock music and one of the greatest bands to have ever lived. No other band has a legacy like Deep Purple, whether you prefer the early and late material with Gillan on vocals or the late 1970s folk rock of David Coverdale, Deep Purple catered for a wide audience. The bands power peaked with the release of Machine Head which contains their biggest hit "Smoke on the water" but others were firm favourites too like Highway Star and Space Truckin.
They hit a low in the years to follow with Blackmore and Glover going on to play in Rainbow and Gillan having a break, but like birds to the nest they reformed to produce the stunning "Perfect Strangers" in 1984, my favourite album of the 1980s largely because it was the MKII line up.
Their sound was still as fresh as ever and Blackmores guitar tone is so heavenly angels are jealous!! [listen to "wasted sunsets" and youll hear what I mean]. Still touring to this day with Ian Paice the only member to have been in the band throughout its career, you cant beat a bit of Deep Purple!!.... child in time, fireball, stormbringer, burn, soldier of fortune, black night, hush are still all classics...to all the trainspotters ive edited "Blackmore" now, problems with predicted typing I guess, R.I.P. Jon Lord by the way
