Mario Gabola: feedback and acoustic sax, tin cans, strings & springs, diy electronics & sensor;

Born in Salerno in 1981, where he began playing saxophone in the south italy traditional brass bands.
He lives in Naples since 2000, where he graduated in Environmental Sciences.
In 2002 he founded the avant-punk band A Spirale , they mixes timbrical research and extended techniques with a post-punk attitude; together they founded the label Viande Records.
In 2009, with SEC_ of Weltraum, another Neapolitan experimental rock band, he founded the duo Aspec(t) in which SEC_'s tapes are mixed with Mario's studies of feedback and recycled or self-made materials.
Mario worked closely with Agostino Di Scipio, a researcher in sound ecology and teacher at the Naples Conservatory, with whom he published "Up-Set" (Viande Records, 2010) and "Musical Sculptures & Other Devices" (DieSchachtel, 2011). At this stage his research shifted from extensive saxophone techniques to feedback studies on saxophone and DIY electronics (going deeper also collaborating with Olivier Di Placido, Arnaud Riviere, Andy Bolus aka Evil Moisture, Andy Guhl from VoiceCrack, Gaia Leandra, Jean Bender...) researching of unstable and nonlinear behaviors generated by electronic systems and acoustic feedback and no-input mixing.
Since 2014 he has founded several groups in which hiphop-like beatmaking is merged with radical improvisation and noise practices, with DJsEKS(Genital Warts), Tom De Testa(Infected Burst, Formless To Come) , Utku Tavil, Makumbo(Radon Squad), Uochi Toki, Abstral Compost, C_C, dj Die Soon, Walter Gross, dj 2Phast...
In the last period, depending on the contexts, he varies his set-up on the sax using extensions of various types such as cans, springs, strings, microphones, up to motion sensors.
Playing between the United States, Europe, and Russia, in 2020 he collaborated with American percussionist Chris Cogburn, releasing for Geneva-based Insubordination Records.
In February 2020 he participated to the No-Idea Festival, an international improvised and experimental music event, in Autsin, Texas.
In the latter period, depending on the contexts, he varies his set-up on the saxophone using various extensions of his own invention such as cans, springs, strings, microphones, up to motion sensors. During and after the covid he embarked on a path of reworking the folk tradition of south italy together with the group the Turcos Meet the Little Devils collaborating with musicians from the folk area such as Kalle Moberg, Kamilya Jubran, Maria Portugal, Loup Uberto,L'Ocelle Mare, Laura Cuomo, Tonino Taiuti, Teatro Deambulante, Begayer, Gianlorenzo Nardi & Lucia Sole(aka La Festa Delle Rane)…
