This is my last message on this topic, I have said everything I want to and have nothing left to say about Echospace. I will no longer fund his scam and will not continue to waste my time writing anything about him!! See ya

They deserve the bashing! They stole and lied , both label and a certain artist, yet continued even after Customers, Bandcamp, PayPal picked up on it!

Admittedly they have released some gems even though personally a lot of ES releases seem very very recycled as their catalog grew with many releases becoming almost indistinguishable from the previous release, esp with the huge Variant releases. Plenty of overrated releases too - personal opinion!
  • Hedzepplin 10 months ago

Browna, as you started this post, maybe you can delete it? I don't know that having is around to keep kicking the can down the road is healthy discussion anymore...unless leaving it in place as risk assessment for anyone new to the dub techno forum to immerse themselves in the history of the label and it's support base commentary would be useful or if that would greenlight continued label behavior. I still love the music, all of it, but I think at this point we all can choose our own paths with the label, bandcamp and Paypal....we're really not saying much about anything new, music wise... don't know if you can delete it, or want to, but that's my two cents in summary...thoughts?

Yes, beyond the music, this thread is their legacy.
That is if you received the music at all.

Seriously, they will keep on scamming for years to come so why not keep the testimony of their deceipt?

I've given up buying from them. Way too many delays and missed orders. Far too much frustration. I'd rather pay a discog scalper, because it seems far more likely that I won't get cheated out of a product.

I bought some studio gear back in October, and it's near enough March. They're not getting a penny from me directly anymore, if I want it bad enough, I'll go third party.

Echospace is the only bandcamp I've ever had problems with.

Finally! I was really digging the samples, but had to hold off until the thing actually released. If you stick to digital and only buy things after they're available for download, it'll be hard to be disappointed.

Edit: After some listening, still enjoying where he's going, but even as the most diehard fan who loves having many variants (ugh pardon the pun) of tracks, I'll finally admit that some things are starting to sound the same.

For what it's worth Stephen played live in Colombia 3 weeks ago, here's a clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGWLqXlSSmM

Really hope he gets his shit together and his business doesn't go bankrupt... business fuckups aside, there's not that much music like his out there, and especially his live shows are really one of a kind, he puts a lot of energy into it and you can feel it, saw him play a cv313 show together with Rod a few years back and to this day it's still one of my favorite gigs ever. Hope he plays in Europe again sometime soon, I'd be willing to travel to another country to see him play, that's how crappy the dubtec scene is over here...

This dude is a straight up thief. I have released dozens of records on vinyl and had maybe 1 production delay and 2 pressing issues. All were fixed in a matter of weeks. The excuses he gives and the timelines for fixing them are not in line with how making records works.

Usually people with issues fulfilling orders at this level have squandered the money and there are no records, no masters, nothing in any physical form coming.

    He is a con man.

My guess is that that they generated a shipping label via PayPal. But it may not have actually been dropped off at the post office yet. If there's a tracking number included, keep checking USPS to see if/when it ships.

  • ghramsummers 9 months ago

I received all the new bits I ordered some months ago, apparently very slow but still in business. I will say, subraktive and those satosphere session CD's are absolute belters, all of them really but their music has never been a question for me (more of an addiction), as usual it's all otherworldly. I would by lying if I said I wasn't anticipating these much sooner but given their message about the health stuff months back, I knew then there would be a wait involved but thankfully I'm patient. My real gripe would be, how does one put so much emphasis and time into bits like these on CD's and not a mention of a vinyl release? It's driven me mad following this sound so closely, I did speak to one of the fellas at Rubadub and I reckon they are making all the echospace catalog on vinyl a reality. Some bits of good news in this mass state of utter rubbish, but where's the new wax?

I received the Satosphere Session II, Radius Interpolation Tapes 0, Thru The Cosmos Eta/Aquariids, CV313 Subtraktive [Reprise]....I bought 2 of exhibit A...got one, and emailed to maybe see if I could exchange the second for at Satosphere III...I don't remember now offhand as it was in 2018 if I had purchased 2 of the Eta /Aqariids, along with the Radius but now I have two of them... I think it may have been a fumble for something different not at the top of my reference morgue...we shall see...anyway, vinyl... he told me that after his funding source for getting the vinyls done passed away... (I assume Mike Huckaby) but can't be sure... then things went south as far as getting them done... but now he has a new backer...(again, I can only assume Rubadub as he mentioned the association) so those all may be back in the works ...

They opened the Echospace Studio page after Bandcamp basically shut down all sales on the Detroit page after continued complaints about delays in both physical shipments & digital releases being pushed back, and back, and back. That's why I'm guessing the Studio page has only a fraction of the releases that Detroit does. Beyond that, yeah, they've basically gone dark since they released "satosphere sessions [transmission III]."

Opening a second bandcamp store, after having transactions disabled on your original, does seem a bit shady :(
  • hoppy303 3 months ago

Is there anywhere you can buy lossless versions of the releases that were hosted at the Echospace [Detroit] bandcamp? There were a few of these that I've been after for a while, particularly the digital exclusive tracks that weren't available on the physical format releases :(
  • zwei_kreise 2 months ago

I get why physical orders were withheld, but disabling digital sales too is kind of puzzling and incredibly dumb on Bandcamp's part. There was never any failure in delivering on digital files as those are quite obviously hosted on Bandcamp's servers and are not in any danger of not getting delivered.

Hopefully it gets sorted out soon.

I don't blame bandcamp for shutting down all sales from all the crap they probably had to deal with when it comes to echospace not delivering

Last I heard Rubadub in Edinburgh were taking control of that process and they are 100% legit. I had expected it would be sorted out on that news. But maybe that also fell through and they are lost forever in echospace.

What I find quite odd is that people are still holding out for these vinyls!? It’s like an bereavement, keep putting flowers on that grave! They are gone, forget about them. ES have robbed the money right out your pockets and not a second glance back! All this pressing plant problems and distribution flannel is just smoke and mirrors. Sad but true!!

You touch the point. I sold 90% of my Echospace collection. The remaining 10% remains on the shelves. Actually i'm listenning some CV313 or Intrusion sometime but rarely. Before that, Echospace was in constant rotation. I can't separate the artist from his music...

That's positive thinking - then you woun't mind paying for them one more time as "we painstakingly have to ask for you to pay once more for these as we now have had to move from our 7th flooded basement and we are now culled from somewhere"
    - and then you can keep waiting!!

Falling Stars will always remind me of naps with my grandkids.

I'm listening to electricwaves right now and the sheer volume and depth of the music he has created is undeniable.

I received some personal items before he hit the big time. I met him at DEMF in 2013 long before the party started. Truly a life highlight.

I ceased direct buy once his BC page took off as the signs were there early that it was too much so have no animosity clouding the music.

I hope somehow, some way he gets back on track.

I heard through some friends there's been a long battle with cancer, so I doubt reputation or music will ever come out in a positive realm in the end of all of this. It's all quite sad to be perfectly honest, their music has been the heartbeat of my life for so many years now, I lost count. I miss hearing their sound sculptures, the music will live on eternally as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, hard to argue with that.

After an early debacle and once 'limited' became meaningless, I just waited before buying anything so no hard feelings, just a sad story.

Tough to separate the music from the artist.
  • errorsinspace 2 months ago

Its one of the strangest situations I have ever seen on 30+ years following music.

There was no reason to steal or lie. He could have passed gas and everyone would bought it. And the Variants versions of those farts.

How could someone have so many loyal devoted fans and purposely screw them all over for a few thousand dollars of a couples years releases?

When there is too many projects out there being made and money runs out they fall through the cracks. Bad health seems to be the only answer.
Just no reason to screw over so many fans when he was a for sure sale everytime he made something
