A series of DJ mix albums, mixed by various artists for the record labels Stud!o K7, Studio !K7 & !K7 Records. The series started out in 1995, and took a break in 2008, but every previous release was reissued on CD in uniform black designs.
DJ-KiCKS is a legendary mix series that formed my musical tastes and still is one of the few bastions keeping studio dj mix art form relevant and CD format alive. No doubt about it. I was inspired so much I even created a concept mix incl. full artwork once by myself, and even sold some copies at bandcamp (hush!..), fun&exciting times. I'm eternally grateful to !K7 and all the artists for introducing me to a whole new world of sounds and moods. You guys are awesome.
disclaimer: next you're about to read an extensive subjective rant bordering butthurt which concludes nothing and leads to basically nowhere. if you're a tough internet warrior who likes to argue please don't waste my/your time by reading it and butthurting back at me (LOL).
Thought I'd check residentadvisor for a change (once a beloved place, nowadays just another useless leftist agenda pusher after they've killed the largest electronic music community in pursuit of the mythical tolerance and very real ticket revenue -- explaining it as only a means to preserve the holy purity&harmony in the comments section and absolutely nothing else) aaand here it is, yet another djkicks mix (by Peggy Gou, Peggy Gou - DJ-Kicks) with an obligatory Aphex Twin track towards the end. I'm not even surprised at this moment.
Did we run out of IDM artists or what? It's like you must shove him into your mix to appear cool and hip. Sorry but no, it doesn't appear that way, and I don't care if it was indeed your influence, it doesn't mean you shouldn't be aware of what other people play, you're DJ for god's sake, releasing a mix on a physical medium that people gonna wait for, unpack, hold in their hands and store on their shelves.. end or rant. xx vz
