The Great Rock Discography Survey: Martin C Strong's Best Artists And Songs In 1995
Mis à jour over 4 years ago
To fry your brain and pay homage to 'The King of Discography Research': Martin C. Strong, whose tireless work has given us 7 editions of The Great Rock Discography plus two editions each of both The Great Psychedelic; Metal & Alternative/Indie Discographies. Though he relies a little too heavily on the word "Great" in his titles, he's put together some of the most meticulously researched music reference books in existence. Their only fault is obsolescence prior to publication date
On the last few pages of the flagship title's '95 Edition, Strong invites readers to take his challenge; A poll asking "Which are the greatest artists & songs?"
Simple to understand - arduous to complete. Select:
► 10 Best Tracks From Fave Artists #1-10
► 5 Best Tracks From Fave Artists #11-20
► 3 Best Tracks From Fave Artists #21-30
► 20 Bonus Tracks From Other Artists
Grand total: 200 tracks.
An Invitation To A...:
This exercise is quite a challenge. The regimented, static formula forces the respondent to think, mull, pare, preen, modify, change & seriously contemplate not only what their favorites bands are, but which are their best cuts. I invite & encourage everyone who's seen this list and have been intrigued by the concept to make their own version in the same format. Doing so gives other readers a unique insight into what makes you tick while at the same time music providing listening suggestions on the premise only the best stuff makes the cut.
If you do make your own list and publish it here o n Discogs, lemme know and I'll link it here accordingly. If you're not an album only purist who turns their nose up at the concept of songs, singles or compilations and are still having trouble culling, it might be wise to approach the task more as a photographer. Select your favorites as opposed to limiting them.
