John Coltrane – Stardust

Phenomenal sounding LP, clear as an unmuddied lake, with a nice stereo soundstage & terrific bass. All instruments sound so 'live' it's like they're sitting 'right there' ya dig? Add libation & drift off into the universe. Vinyl is dead-silent as well. An incredible bargain for $20...

This pressing sounds great. Clean pressing, no warps, no surface noise. Came in QRP rice paper inner sleeve. Definitely worth the $15 I spent on it. No clue if it's all analog though.

holy shit, on the L side horn parts of "Then I'll Be Tired Of You," the cracking is as loud as the music. what the hell is this? every time the L side horn gets goin theres a loud crackin sound that accompanies and matches the dynamics of the playing. piano also distorts at times, but may be in original recording.

Really a great sounding pressing overall. Coltrane is clear and crisp and there’s little to no noise on the vinyl itself. The channels are in stereo with Coltrane, piano, and horns in the left channel, drums and bass in the right. This would likely sound even better in mono but I don’t mind the separation too much.

I bought my copy of this particular release at the EMI Austria-shop in Vienna in August 2014, so the release date 2015 is obviously wrong!

Along with the "Bahia" album that was released in '65, this album, originally released in '63 contains tracks from two sessions. The earlier session from '57 also produced the tracks that were used on "Stardust" album. This is a nice selection, all ballads bar "Love Thy Neighbour". The title tune is probably the highlight, but the album is also notable as one of the earliest recordings of Freddie Hubbard who would go onto feature on Olé and Africa Brass.
