The debut album by The Clash was originally released on LP in the UK in April 1977 [14 tracks] and across the Atlantic in July 1979 with 15 tracks [updated with new recordings and initially with an additional bonus 7" single not available separately]. After an early Japanese release, CD editions followed the US edition first, to be replaced with remasters of the original sequence.

      I just scored a sealed copy with -G1A/-G1F matrices. No Nice Price circular hype sticker.

      How does this anonymous remaster compare with the original/1979 issue cut at Sterling Sound? My only experience with the early 1980s -G1 series is the remaster of Bridge Over Troubled Water on silent vinyl, which sounds mighty fine to my ears.

      * update:
      The good: As expected, 1980s Nice Price budget line era vinyl is excellent.
      The bad: No bass, compressed to hell, probably sourced from a tape copy. Sounds mid-fi. I can deal with the mid-fi, as it has its own charm. But this remaster was cut at such a low volume that I have to crank this mutha up which is a dealbreaker. ;-(

        A tight, pristine full range digital transfer. Thanks Bill Price.

          Got this spinning... It is flat, quiet, and I have to agree (with the reviews below) this record sounds big/dynamic/loud. I can't see a downside to this release, great price point, great sound, great album...

            My copy has a similar rectangular sticker but with a red background and "from CBS" printed underneath. White printed catalog inner.

              Vivid memories of seeing that cover for the first time. Putting the needle down on the run in. "He's in love with Rock and Roll, woh". Who the f*ck is Janie Jones? Who cares, this is obviously created by people like me. Who needs Remote Control? Not me. White Riot - I'd seen the agitators outside the Marquee trying to get us to throw bricks at the bill. Then the killer blow, yeah coz we're all bored with the USA, we want to star in own lives not f*cking Starsky and Hutch. Hate & War - it's like CND with safety pins. Then Deny - we all know someone like that. London's Burning with boredom, so's my home town too. Anyone who saw the Careers officer at school can relate to the lack of opportunity. Cheat's a bit dark - never thought about breaking and entering but these guys are hard. Protex Blue - we all had a johnny in our pockets that only ever got blown up and floated over the dance floor. Police & Thieves - 2 chords, lead guitar, reggae style - multicultural or what? 48 hours to fornicate is how I heard it. Garageland - that's where our band was and stayed. Put it on again.

                I can say from owning a UK first press, just looking at the artwork and colors on the back it’s incredible

                  I, like some of you, don’t have another pressing to directly compare this to, but I was pleasantly surprised at how great this sounds.

                      This is a fantastic punk album by the Clash and sounds great. The production is relatively simple, but it can be reason why it sounds good.

                        Similar to the "The Clash" title, this LP comes in pink, transparent vinyl? Does that take away from the sound? Nope, it's as stellar as anything that Tim Young did with and for The Clash. If you look at the wav-files you'll see a very flat line between the tracks, so you could say it is dead silent!!!
                        Even though this first one is of course more in the Pistol's vein, a raunchy Punk record, the talent and brilliant musicianship already sets them apart from many of their peers back in those days... Made in the year I was born I finally fall in love with it, when years back I liked their later works much more, but I'm coming from a Blues background.

                        Great album in a superb pressing, the artwork, again, is absolutely amazing, from the detailed inner sleeve to the A&B labels. I'm very glad they finally present The Clash in this handsome way, the music deserves it!!
                        ...and the pink record looks very stylish, too. ☺️
