Art Pepper – Art Pepper + Eleven (Modern Jazz Classics)

Picked up for $12 at local record store. NM condition, sounds wonderful! Keep your eyes open for this pressing…very nice!

Bought as a backup to my 2022 BG Stereo remaster. Played it and blow me down its only the quieter better quality pressing of the two. Ok so the mastering is abit better on the BG cut but not by much and this sounds plenty good enough for almost the third of the price i paid for said 2022 issue. Another surprisingly good Waxtime then after i slagged off these kinds of labels initially. I still wont buy from the Russian Dol, Doxy and Vinyl Lovers labels but Waxtime and Jazz Images ive found are mostly decent products at very fair prices

Sound is maybe a bit on the dark side. The imaging seems pretty good.

Disappointment when first played with the distortion in the brass on A1, however the rest of the disc sounds fine (close on occasions). And, A1 is like that in the digital versions sampled. So, fine.

The disk wasn't grossly filthy fresh from the inner sleeve, or damaged in any appreciable way. Also, flat. All bonuses, recently, for me. A few ticks. Slight label fold on B.

Some fairly minor tape issues noted during at least A4 and A6. Ymmv in as much as this is a problem. It doesn't worry me that much here.

Overall, very pleased to add this to a shelf.

Interesting that both sides are RE 2 cuts by Bernie (G that is); clearly one wonders who requested the recutting and why. (Does RE 2 mean a second cut or a third?)

The jacket is okay; the front is orangey and the darks are clipped in his hair and shirt, so no good if you want to admire the photograph.

Absolutely love this master. Fabulous channel separation. Quite clean press on my copy as well.

Sorry to hear that some other Discogs music lovers are having issues. But fortunately my copy sounds more than perfect, it just swings in a clean and lively sound... astonishing that a same pressing can have that many quality differences... regardless of the pressing, the music is lovely. Let's dance!

The disc was extremely dusty when I opened it up and had some loud pops, although it's decent enough overall. I agree that the sound is a bit lifeless. I'd even agree that the cover isn't very well reproduced (dark, over-saturated and lacking in detail). It's great music and a great recording so I could imagine someone without a frame of reference being happy with it, but you're better off spending the same money on an earlier pressing. My 1970's pre-OJC pressing will cost the same or less and sounds a lot better. The cover on that one doesn't pretend to recreate the original, but even so the photo is better than this Craft version. This disc is a disappointment, and I'm far from the pickiest customer out there.

QRP: what a bad pressing quality, lots of disturbing noise all over. The other 2 issues that are out in this moment in this series have the same faults. Just is not worth this amount of money. Acoustic Sounds had better look out for a decent pressing plant !! Even the Chech pressing plant is better or, of course, Record Industry as stated below.
QRP: avoid.

A very good reissue with typical solid state Grundman sound. Clean, good separation, a little cool and mechanical. If you can find a good, clean original buy that but if you can't this will do.
