Wonder if this is not a late 1970/early 1971 issue, as label design with separate boxes and ”Made in USA” ending bottom text is used for 2nd 1970 issue of Ptah, and 1971 first issues of Universal C and Journey In S as well. Earlier issues of A Monastic and Ptah don’t have separate boxes, and all later issues miss ”Made in USA”.

There are two versions of this pressing. One with black labels and one with blue labels. My black label version skips on track A1. I messaged SV who told me their version is OOP now. But they found a clean blue label disc and sent that to me. The blue label plays through without issue. Both sound great considering they’re not AAA.

Both lp have the same mispress on side one, track one.
The scatch is tiny, you can feel it with your fingernail,

This record sounds beautiful. Glistening upper-register piano dashes from Coltrane on side A. I'm a little bit puzzled by this comment from Amiri Baraka in the liner notes: 'The harp side is a dinner plate needing actual food: ("the perfect rhythm section") someone has took it.'

I know that this has not be mastered from the original tapes. However, this sounds on par with the original to me. Not sure what they cleaned up in the mastering process but Superior Viaduct impressed me with this one. Very nice gatefold as well.

This isn't one of my favorite Alice records, it's middle of the road for me. That said buying an original for $60+ has never been worth it, personally. This is an excellent option if you purely value to the music, but lack the desire to own an OG pressing (since they are a bit harder to come by). Solid recommendation, especially if you're just getting into her music and you want some more accessible options that aren't super expensive.

one of the best recording debuts ever.
The extant repetoire For Concert Harp seems inadequate in comparison to Coltrane's hungry reach and thirst-quenching arpeggiations that burst, float, arc and fade like a rainbow of fruit flavors for the ear and mind.
An exquisite testament of naked beauty at once detailed and streamlined, exhibiting naturally supernatural performances that seem unstudied yet proficient, in a ratio perfect for seducing a mind ready for the transcendent.
Coltrane's piano playing is further enriching in comparison to the commonalities and discrepancies it shares with her Concert Harp, exemplifiying a signature approach to the naturals and accidentals, she accepts risk without accident, and, proving herself to be the consummate auteur, makes the two instruments appear to be flip sides of a single colorful pallette: despite the difference between the horizontal (pianoforte) and the vertical (Concert Harp) playing surfaces, the reach of their registers is nearly the same (Concert Harp is ony a half-octave shy of the piano's range) as she ably ventures above and below the norm in caressing cascades of sound.
A dissociative, unselfish pleasure that speaks to -or from- the divine, bless you Alice Coltrane.
