Who:
Avid music lover, occasional Doper & regular RYM'er with a bunch of releases to catalog and 2,000 classical albums to list/sell.

What:
I've never been fully comfortable with the internet's presentation of flesh & blood people as screen names. If you happen to agree, here's an easy to read summary of the man between the name; a great little exercise that teaches us a little bit about ourselves: Type the first adjective that comes to mind about yourself, starting at A (and obviously) thru Z. In my case, the result is: Able-bodied, Brash, Creative, Dry, Elusive, Frank, Gregarious, Horny, Irresponsible, Jaded, Keen, Lean, Mild, Nice, Open-minded, Passionate, Quaint, Rebellious, Shallow, Tall, Uncharacteristic, Vain, Wiry, Xenophobic, Yearning & Zealous

Where:
Life-long New Yorker with plans of relocating to Phoenix once my youngest daughter goes to college.

Why:
To catalog my collection, which is much easier to do here on Discogs than on RYM. Whereas both sites have their strengths and weaknesses, I'd rather one that caters to collectors over digital file downloaders and doesn't have a moderating staff hierarchy.

Now:
Discogs vs. RYM: One Individual's Spin (Work in progress as yet unpublished)

Want:
Merely 1 item (not listed on discogs): Jet Set Six's self-released sophomore album, 2001's Life In The Jet Age. (Here's the CD / Recorded at Hillside Sound Studio & formerly sold through Bennett Studios, 1 Depot Square, Englewood, NJ).

Election Day Asides:
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years...

...Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage."

Vinylphiles Make Me Snicker
Audio myth: Vinyl better than CD By Richard Pell
Vinyl vs. CD myths refuse to die Follow-up
Conclusion: Sorry, but hisses, pops, scratches and dust do NOT sound better

Database Work
I came to the conclusion that instead of devoting time toward doing work on discogs (or RYM's) database, it's best to develop, enter and tweak the metadata of my own flacs in Foobar. Until someone comes along and scraps the notion of building a music database from the physical release downward -- and develops a more workable structure, with the individual track(s) as the foundation components -- a good portion of the work that people contribute is a big waste of time. Think about it by asking yourself how much (actual) track-based data you've contributed as 'physical release' data?
