A Mod who also likes lots of other types of music other than typical Mod stuff. The only music I don't like is lame, soulless, hyper-commercial music - like modern country music, or Pop-Hip-Hop of the last 10 or 15 years. I like pretty much everything else, except 'non-anolog' electronic music - id est, techno, to sound like an old frump - and most music from the 80's (except more indie or punk stuff). I am also a Deadhead and a Phishead. The first band I was into was R.E.M., which is indirectly how I got into mod stuff (R.E.M.'s guitarist's style is very much influenced by The Byrds, so I got into 60's music, and found all of the Mod stuff like The Who, Small Faces, The Kinks, Chris Farlowe, Yardbirds, 60's soul music, et cetera). I am NOT an audiophile and as a scientist by profession (a paleoceanographer and paleoclimatologist to be specific) I know that arguments about it 'sounding better' as scientifically bunk (it is physically impossible for the human ear to distinguish between digital and analog recordings - this has been empirically tested zillions of times and has always been shown to be true) and anyone who claims otherwise is only hearing a difference because they decided beforehand they were going to. That does not mean vinyl can't sound better, many audiophile pressings of records have really nice masters/remasters which can make a huge difference (listen to, for example, Sundazed mono remaster of Safe As Milk, you will hear what I mean). I just like having a physical copy (it makes you enjoy and listen to the music more if it exists physically). I also enjoy looking for stuff at shops/collecting. I am not into having specific copies of records (1st pressing and whatever), so long as some version is not 'a bad pressing' or has stupid alternative album artwork (like the 1970's repressing of Five Live Yardbirds).

Here are two good short pieces on the 'vinyl is better' thing is just subjective.
Scientific American
Something from a prof at Tufts University - 'CDs reflect exactly what the artists recorded in the studio. Vinyl distorts it. Some listeners honestly feel that the defects vinyl introduces somehow make it more attractive or “warmer.” But from any objective standpoint, there’s no justification in calling the sound of vinyl records “better.”'

I am very slowly (VERY) going through my collection of ~1000 records (and always being expanded), adding to existing discogs releases or adding new ones as I go.

Let me know about any mistakes I make (kindly); if I don't respond, message me, I sometimes have to spend long-ish periods of time away from 'civilization'/access to my records/access to internet for my job, so I might not always respond immediately.

I am pedantic about grammar/sentence construction in notes, artist descriptions, et cetera.

Umm... How is having some tracks from Five Live a 'ripoff' when that album was not released in the US market until the early 1970's? Maybe it was a bit lazy on part of Epic records, but that material was totally new material in the US at the time - ... Voir l'avis en entier

A very good album. One of the albums I give to people trying to convince them that Country music is not so bad (Generally of symptom of Americans=uneducated hicks=Country music attitude in UK and full blown classism in the USA.)
