I hate buying from labels as it's too much to keep track of, and individual shipping costs are too high, seeing as how I buy around a thousand CDs a year.

Psychonavigation.com charge 3 Euro (It's actually 4 Euro to post it) so I think we are a pretty cheap option overall really. 10.99 Euro to your house wherever you live. Also our Bandcamp page is even cheaper :)

For those who might have missed it!

Atom Heart(Tm) - Cold Memories x2Cd released a little while ago, but a great album of minimal techno, ambient that brings memories of Atom's releases on FAX label - esp Softcore, Live @ I/S/L, Orange, Aerial Service Area, Jet Chamber 1(classic)

I'd like to mention that I went ahead and ordered the first release from Anodize, at least to check out the packaging that will accompany the new Autumn of Communion and Ishqmatics releases and not only is the unique metal tin case fantastic!, but the music on the label's flagship release is pretty damn good as well: Within Reason - Transient Broadcasts

$15 is a bargain with these upcoming releases and with what we've see happen with tin case editions (Chain Reaction, Recycle or Die) they are definitely going to be 'Buy or Cry' items.

Ye I like those tins too! Contemplated the idea for some Psychonavigation releases but even thou they are cheap as chips to buy in bulk from USA their not so cost effective in UK :( Ah well....

Just so everyone's clear Kracker It's $15 plus 6.56 Euro shipping. Not the worst I suppose.
  • player over 4 years ago

Wow this label looks really (Anodize) exciting with its releases and those beautiful distinguishable covers and art (I love collecting them as they feel as a investment and feeling of collection in something unique in music)...Have ordered there first release ,

oh btw Keith, I preordered all three releases and they charged me the combined shipping rate for all three releases, then sent me the Within Reason release.

Just ordered Transient Broadcasts and also Groupthink - Happy Gods, which I have been thinking about for a bit. Good thing is although it is from the associated label, Periphery, you can combine postage for a bit of cost saving. Bad news is even with combined postage for both it is 14 dollars ( £9.66 in todays money exchange on paypal ) to the UK.

The other excellent thing is; download instantly available in many formats for instant gratification via bandcamp :-)

itunes now fired up for FAX related music overload 8-) whilst I await my CDs in nice metal box type thingy.

Cheers for mentioning this btw people.

Indiana Drones is now available for pre-order direct from Dave as the second release from the new Carpe Sonum label (the first being the Namlook tribute).

    http://www.ear-rational.com/index.php?searchparm=Carpe+Sonum

I say if the new label is all it promises to be, this forum should also be the official forum of the Carpe label.

Will there be an European distro for this label?
  • Kracker over 4 years ago

Have to ask Dave about that, but I'm sure he's working that out
  • Kracker over 4 years ago

SEIZE002 - Indiana Drones is now has a kickstarter page

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1026678207/indiana-drones-material-object-phonaut-indiana-dro/

According to the kickstarter page, Indiana Drones would need no more than 50 pre-orders by the end of this month, May, to reach the funding goal, when Dave has expressed that about 100 pre-orders would be able to keep this release in the black. And btw this is for a 500 CD run. At the same time, to avoid the kickstarter fees, Dave would prefer regular EAR-Rational shop customers to pre-order from:
    http://www.ear-rational.com/index.php?searchparm=Carpe+Sonum

So it's still unclear so far how the crowdfunding will still work since from my understanding, the real goal is closer to 100 pre-orders and kickstarter only accounts for 50 of those and Dave only sees those pre-orders if the kickstarter goal is reached by the end of the month
  • phonaut over 4 years ago

Ear-Rational Music has activated the Kickstarter page for the upcoming Indiana Drones CD edition: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1026678207/indiana-drones-material-object-phonaut-indiana-dro

  • little_alien over 4 years ago

Got to have this, but the minimum amount is $28 shipped to Europe, right? I know shipping from US to Europe has become insanely expensive, but it would probably be good to get a European distro going if this kickstarter thing works out.
  • slntwtchr over 4 years ago

i don't (or can't afford to) buy like i used to, but i pre-ordered this for a variety of reasons.

yeah - if every order is from the US, 50 will put them at $900 - right above the goal. not a bad or inachievable mark. i just hope that if for some reason he falls short on Kickstarter those are somehow mostly captured through direct orders since Kickstarter doesn't fund unless the goal is hit. Or maybe he's willing to pick up any shortfall since I have to believe that in short order he'd hit 50 direct orders anyway...

looking very much forward to this venture to hopefully fill a tiny bit of the FAX void...
  • Crispy2112 over 4 years ago

Glad Indiana Drones is getting a physical release! It's a belter of an album and deserves it. Keep meaning to put a review up on the blog. Will try to at some point when time allows...
  • Kracker over 4 years ago

Hopefully this venture will be the continuation of the FAX sublabel that we all hoped for

little_alien, are you able to order from the Ear-rational site instead if the shipping might be better? And again you gotta ask Dave of his European distro plans, since it would really give him the sales he needs. I think he plans on moving away from the kickstarter once the label has achieved its momentum so in the meantime, Carpe really needs our support.
  • vladza over 4 years ago

Ordered. Glad, the FAX will live on.
  • foojar over 4 years ago

    little_alien
but the minimum amount is $28 shipped to Europe

Does that mean that an order has to be a minimum of $28 plus shipping added, or it's $16 + $12 shipping? $12 (around £8) is a lot to have to add on.

More importantly, is that the total cost of the order, including shipping etc. cannot be more than £15 if importing into the UK from outside the EU as it them becomes liable for VAT and customs duty charges (I think the VAT cuts in at £15 and duty charges at £20 and I think they're charged on the total cost, not just from the £15).

Once charges cut in, then Royal Mail will then charge their "fee" - a rip-off £10 to collect the money from you. I assume that other carriers have similar charges.
(All charges / limits were correct last year, I don't know if they've changed this year).

    Therefore, a $28 (£19) order could cost you £19 + £3.80 VAT + £10 fee = £32.80 + any customs duties (if applicable). A hefty amount.

Good point. For the Netherlands the tax-free limit is €22 if I'm not mistaken. $28 shipped would be €21.52, but shipping charges do not count towards the total value for Dutch tax, so I should be safe.

Hmm, come to think of it, a single FAX CD directly from Peter would cost me €15 + €4.50 shipping = €19.50, so it's not that much of a difference. I usually purchased by 2 CDs though, so that would cut the shipping (same fee applied for 2 CDs) in half.

Perhaps http://www.datablem.com could handle the European distro? They used to carry FAX titles too.
  • Kracker over 4 years ago

Just asked Dave about Euro distro
If you are a regular customer with Dave and pre-ordered, do the Kickstarter instead and Dave will make any adjustments, like knock-off what you paid for shipping to reflect a combined order.
I had gone ahead and pre-ordered AND did the Kickstarter because I know that if we overshoot the goal Dave will adjust my bill so I only have to pay for one copy
I made sure my e-mail address with Dave is the same one I used with Kickstarter to avoid confusion.

Also, regular customers of Dave, keep in mind that you can SUBSCRIBE to the Carpe Sonum label like you did with the FAX label and that'll communicate to Dave how many guareenteed pre-orders he has for future releases.

Pete was quite reasonable with his postal charges and I think the postage for europe covered up to four CDs, unlike a few unscrupulous sellers who give the false impression by selling the CD cheap and then adding on greatly inflated post charges.

I think that it's wrong that VAT should be charged on postage rates for imported goods outside the EC. VAT is charged on post and packaging charges within the UK because it's classed as a "service" (a complete rip-off). But to charge it on external shipping charges to the UK is outrageous.
  • ear-rational over 4 years ago

Hi all, I must confess I tend to forget about this forum, but I will try to keep up.

I realize that shipping from the US to Europe/UK is ridiculously expensive (about $13 for a single CD). It does drop quite a bit for multiple CDs (so it's $15 for 2 CDs = $7.50 per CD), so if you can combine your order with a friend, then that sure helps.

But I know that's not a viable option for most folks, so I'm going to do what I can to get European distribution for Carpe Sonum. If anyone can help in that regard, it would be appreciated.

Failing that, is anyone will to accept a shipment of a big box of CDs and a bunch of CD mailers, and then ship them out to individual customers in Europe and the UK? We'll cover the shipping, and some $$$ for your time, and you'll get free CDs in the process. Possible?

    Thanks for the support!

Have you considered contacting CDS in Dundee regarding distribution/European sales ? I buy much Electronic music from them as do many over this side of the pond.

Secondly, out of interest, will this release be available on itunes UK/Europe ? I have purchased much FAX from there in the past, as well as CDs direct from Pete obviously.

As to your second question...this release is already on Bandcamp at
http://materialobject.bandcamp.com/album/indiana-drones and Carpe Sonum takes no piece of that. Our plan is to let the artists keep control of the digital income. I suppose we might put up a label page on Bandcamp and we can take a cut from that, but if we come along and say, "Hey, we want to release your stuff on CD and we also want a piece of your digital income," it doesn't really sit right with me.

(All charges / limits were correct last year, I don't know if they've changed this year).

By coincidence, the subject of importing from outside the EU was raised in another group. Apparently the Royal Mail fee is £8 (not £10, still a rip-off though!). Customs duties normally don't begin until after £135. Therefore, if ordering from outside the EU, the total cost of that order, (if the price including shipping etc. is £15 or more) will be:
cost of order + 20% VAT on all of the order value + £8 Royal Mail fee.
    So, an order with a total value of £20 will cost £20 + £4 + £8 = £32

So, not having made a pledge yet (been away on holiday, was planning on doing so this week), what would be the best way to get Indiana Drones now for me in the Netherlands? Good news about the EU distro, yay!
  • ear-rational over 4 years ago

    Little_alien (and other Europe/UK folks),

Now that we'll be distributed through Kudos UK, you can buy from them direct.

Should be £10.99 + £4.15 postage to The Netherlands (and only £1.65 within the UK). So roughly $23 total. That's cheaper than we could get it to you directly, now that the USPS has raised their shipping rates.

  • ear-rational over 4 years ago

We will still do fan-funding/pre-orders for U.S. folks, and what I'm thinking of doing is just getting a tally of non-U.S. folks who say they will buy the release (I'll do some sort of signup on my site, but no money will change hands). As long as folks plan to buy the CD after hearing it, we'll go forward. And if we get ~45 U.S./Canada folks to fund, then we're really fine. I'm thinking of switching to groovebot for the fan-funding...for one thing, they only take a 5% cut, and they pay out once you hit 75% of your goal (of course there is nothing stopping us from setting a lower goal on Kickstarter, for example).

Now that we'll be distributed through Kudos UK, you can buy from them direct

That's excellant news, even more so as a UK buyer!. As long as their stock is pressed and not CDR then I'll be very happy :-)

Just discovered Minilogue - Blomma album! For all FAX fans who enjoyed Move D/Namllook collaboration albums should most certainly get hold of this album...
Brilliant combination of deep sublime tech-house, ambient, techno that really stands out with a great Move D/Namlook ambient tech sound.

Thanks Kiethdowney - it was a find that took me unexpectedly! Never expected it to be as good as I thought, which it certainly was - now looking more into Cocoon label.

You might also want to check Ursprung - ST album and Pantha-Du-Prince & The Bell Laboratory - The Elements Of Light album. Both quality albums with that Move D/Namlook fusion of tech-house-kraut-ambient deep sublime music .

Just wondering how man FAX listeners listen to FAX's own sub label 'Rather Interesting'. A label that has released some amazing releases fusing and using ambient, techno, idm, electro, experimental, jazz..etc!...a lot of albums worth discovering if previously missed - like FAX limited prints!...Certainly a label for me that was in the same league as FAX and visionary as FAX - yet does seem to get less attention from FAX followers !
  • jdcapshew over 4 years ago

I think almost all FAX listeners are fully aware of Rather Interesting. I think it's very difficult to make a case that it is/was as visionary since the output was far smaller than FAX and subject to the whimsical nature of whatever Atom Heart happened to be into when he did a release. There's a lot I love, but there's also a lot that's close to unlistenable even though I have the entire catalog.

*sigh* ok we get it.. please this thread isn't for that
Yea It's more of a matter of Rather Interesting not being for everybody. That's pretty much why it's a separate label. And whenever Atom released anything appropriate like Orange or Softcore it would wind up on FAX. And i feel the same way as JD. IMO RI hasn't released anything good in the past 10 years. It got me thinking tho, FAXlist is gone but did the RI list (aka Mother) remain active? Was interested in the lists' thoughts over this past year.
  • ilmar2350 over 4 years ago

Yea Mother-list is still alive and active. Atom™ - HD was pretty well received as far as I know. I think it is a pretty good release. Reminds of The Stereonerds - HD Endless, but not as good ;)

    ^^ That...
  • Kracker over 4 years ago

Yea from the bits I heard Atom™ - HD is pretty good. Id recommend it. Can't help but think that it would have been the next RI release since it's not the type of experimental stuff that Raster-Noton releases. Does Mother archive their list like 2350.org did? I was interested on their thoughts during the past year over the end of the label and everything.
