I thought it was about time for anyone to list a few unreleased Drum & Bass tracks from years gone that they might remember never seeing the daylight, stuff that never came out on vinyl...:(

Here's a few off the top of me head:-

LTJ Bukem - Horizons (Paradox Remix)
Optical - To Shape The Future (V.I.P. Mix)
    Optical - Fibre Optic
Ed Rush & Optical - Codek

All the above were quality tracks, such a shame....anymore I can't think of?

Here's some that I can think of:

DJ Trace - Definition Of Living (Amen Version)
The Underworld - Sound Boy In A Problem (VIP)
Source Direct - Yo Bitch (VIP)
    Calibre - Life
    OB1 - Nothing But Time
    Equinox - Unity
Doc Scott - Unofficial Ghost (Remix) (I think there are quite a few of these though!)
Plenty of Optical tracks (waaay more than 20 anyway)
Ed Rush, Optical & Fierce - Alien Girl (Syntax Remix)

And whatever the opening track to Guy Called Gerald's One In The Jungle mix was.

...and piss off Boymerang, Grooverider, Dom & Optical. There's always a reason why these tracks don't get a full release. Example: I know for a fact that Bukem will never let 'Horizons VIP' get out because Paradox did it off his own back without permission. Lets hope he never finds out about my 'Music' and 'Atlantis' VIP's :]

Its not all bad though; Seba did a remix of Amits' 'Dual Sense' for Commercial Suicide, Amit didn't like it (!) so it could never be released. So a wicked track sits on the shelf? Not on your life. Seba released it anyway and its called 'External Reality' on Sec Ops. Now thats Drum n Bass! Makes you wonder how many official unreleased remixes are out there...
  • REDBOY over 11 years ago

Too many to mention but i will add these to the debate: BAD COMPANY-SNEAKERS. CALIBRE-LIFE+WATAKU+TRY. ED RUSH OPTICAL + NICO-EDTRATHENICAL. GROOVERIDER-CHARADES REMIX. There was a photek remix i heard a few years back that smashed the dancefloor never heard it since though probably never will again. :(

Yeah.....this did get released on some obscure German Techno label as a promo - S3 Frankfurt (Sony sub label).

F**k knows why it was released in Germany, maybe he didn't get Herbie's nod to do it. I heard at the time that it was going on one of Rider's Albums, but this never happened & as with all of Rider's best tunes / remixes, it still remains unreleased.
  • steady_pace over 11 years ago

    Rashid - Charade (Grooverider Remix)

& apparently this never got released due to Sony dropping Rashid from their label. Again, another one that should be on the next Rider album, when this will be?.......Who knows....Who fucking knows :(

  • eddiebale over 11 years ago

Rashid - Charade (Grooverider Remix) - I got this on a promo CD off E-bay - listed in the wrong section, won it for £1.60, had a few other Riders RMX's also (ill dig it out and have a look)

Not sure who put it out but all the MP3's are all 320's - tune still sounds good now - Remember Ray Keith dropping this back at the end of 97 @Slammin Vinyl - Place went off.

I did think it was going to come out as it seemed that a few dj's back in around 2004 where playing it again, NU:Tone comes to mind and also Bailey - Maybe Rider had some TP's in his lock-up that he found while cleaning the Serria on a sunday afternoon :)

    nickdawg
Grooverider & Matrix- The Porn Tune

is this the one that samples raw sex "suck it deep"?
  • nickdawg over 11 years ago

Calibre had a remix on The Harder They Come pt. 3, but apparently there was talk of a VIP mix as well. I've never heard it myself before but apparently Fabio used to play it out a lot.

I've heard sound clips of that Grooverider and Matrix song a few times and there were definitely snippets from porn flicks throughout the song, mainly in the breakdown. Not sure about the "suck it deep" bit though. Apparently there was supposed to be a porn-theme double pack that was slated to release on Prototype in early 2000. Fuck The Pussy and Porn Tune were two of the songs that were going to be on the release but the whole project never saw the light of day. Never heard clips of Fuck the Pussy before, but I dug the Porn Tune, was very similar in sound to many of the tunes on Matrix's Sleepwalk LP.
  • TheBeatFreak over 11 years ago

i heard rider play this tune at the que club, sampled a porn film with some bird talking about 2 dicks?

if thats the one that tune is PHAT when it drops
  • REDBOY over 11 years ago

Yup that's the one i got it on an old tape this tune used to smash the clubs.
  • nickdawg over 11 years ago

Actually come to think of it, I do remember the 2 dicks quote in the breakdown of Porn Tune haha....and I'm not 100% sure on this, but Optical may have been involved in that track as well. I had a good soundclip of that track on my old laptop that I would post but the hd died :/

There's a good number of Photek tracks that never saw the light of day either, like Saturated Hip Hop and Feeling Up....One Nation/Say It (prototype #6) did come out on test press so something like 30-40 copies exist so technically it was released, and many consider it to be the holy grail of dnb record collecting.

Dillinja-Playtime is another one that never saw the light of day, although certain elements of it ended up being used in the Ultrasonic Sound remix.

    Grooverider - smilin'
I have a promocassette of The Prototype Years with this track on it. Bit of an old school d'n'b track mixed with rave.
It is also mentioned on the inlay of the cd, i think they forgot to edit the text with the final release...
The tape also features Still VIP mix!
So i'm very happy with that!

Anyone know what happened to the planned albumrelease by The Advocate?
Some of those tracks were available for listening at the dnb Arena around 2000 or 2001 and then suddenly got retracted...
They sounded amazing at the time!
Still really like to get my hands on them...
  • nickdawg over 11 years ago

I have a music house acetate w/a dnb remix of Busta Rhymes "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See" on it that I don't think ended up being released...the plate says it's by grooverider but I'm 95% sure it's bad company, really wicked track, if it had the vocals stripped it could easily fit in with the other tunes from the Inside The Machine album.

I also have another plate I found on Soundbytes by Fresh & Vegas with a tune called "Revisited" that is really good...more of a jazzy roller with a vintage sounding organ that is the lead riff of the song, jazz bass guitar, and a bit of live instrumentation towards the end (or some pretty insane editing work but I can't tell the difference). Haven't heard this one anywhere else, if in fact it's unreleased I would be surprised, it was a pretty good tune!

Holy shit, I'm just looking at your submission of that cassette of Prototype Years, that's an gem you've got right there! I'm well familiar with the Prototype back catalouge and the Still VIP has always been considered one of the holy grails on that label (in addition to one nation by photek)....that Smilin' track, as well as the unfinished version of Warning on the A-side, would be pretty neat to hear.

There was a 12" that had several versions of Mr. Maniac that came out years ago, I think Dylan did a harder mix, Zinc did a jump-up one, and there was a speed garage mix on there as well.

Same thing w/Rock Da Funky Beat, a few of the remixes came out on Urban Takeover in the UK, and I have the US version of the 12" with the 187 Lockdown and Urban Takeover remixes. Although I'm sure there's a lot of unofficial remixes kicking around since the vocals are very easy to sample!

Pressure had a few remixes that came out on Formation, I know there was one remix that came out right after the original that was by John B, and he also did a 2004 remix as well.

Plague That Never Ends came out on that True Playaz EP years ago, don't know of any remixes of this though.

I'm not sure, all I know is Bukem played it a couple of times, & I only ever heard Bukem play it, no one else (maybe Crystl did a special version just for Bukem to play - he was renowned for that)!!
I managed to get it on a mix tape from The Edge (Coventry) at the time, so this is the only memory I have of it, sadly the tape is slowly wearing out over the years, probably one of the best remixes Crystl has ever done.

Those tracks bukem did with hyper on experience and g-force - proximity are stand outs for me.
