To be fair, I think he's maybe mainly doing it out of retaliation because of that guy who had a fake FB account making fun of him; i think he even had a fake website. But nor Lee or any of us have anything to do with that. The guy even came into this forum and immediately banned him since this is not the place for that nonsense. Or maybe that's just where he got the idea that he can do that.

I like this label, but after reading this I feel obligated to respect the artists and not buy these dodgy reissues, or anything else they put out. I also noticed that the Databloem store seemed to stop getting their cds. Given that Mick Chillage is on both labels, maybe it's because of this?

I recently bought some of the Psychonavigaiton labels cd's in their last sale. Great deals he was offering! Bloody postage to USA killed me but great music. I got the Mick Chillage debut CD (Mick if your reading this great work) and also Gel-Sol's albums too. Lots others but they stand out. After reading this thread and others on this group page I find it bizarre all this talk about this Downey chap as he was very pleasant to me in our dealings. I'll be buying more of their new stuff from the label that's for sure! It's good to support these small independent labels whatever you think of the owner. Now I don't know much about the music bizness (I'm a fanboy only) but It's a pity he can't defend himself anymore and people seem to be ganging up on him do you all know him personally I doubt it? I painfully read all the comments from him and others and I don't think he did anything wrong. He definitely has a weird way of doing things (Not the first label boss though I'm sure most are wackos) and from what I see this jessfranco2 person has a grudge against him and I see he has attacked him personally and gives negative reviews on his own music too as No Mask Effect. Very childish Is this the Txt / AOC chap? Sorry I only have his first album.. Still discovering this Ambient music stuff. Anyway good to be here.

hmmm.. odd that both would go down at the same time. the domain is still there and i don't know if you can simply 'deactivate' a bandcamp account. His other label Where Ambient Lives he runs under a fake name is still up and just added a new release.

Pretty odd given the Sea Biscuit reissue is on its way and will undoubtedly be one of his biggest sellers.
He could have just renamed the Bandcamp page, seems crazy to have taken it down. Even he must earn a few meagre pennies off his non-existent promotion.

He's been pushing Where Ambient Lives on Facebook a lot so I wouldn't be surprised if he is going to focus on that now.

If this is the end of the label, what does that mean for those of us mid-contract with him? He still owns the digital rights to Ambifauna for the next three years and there are probably still 80 copies left. What happens with all of that?

I'd be interested to hear Jonah promoting this re-release from himself.. Strange how he's been so quiet about it.. Something seems very off and dodgy about it all imo. As above have said Sea Biscuit doesn't need a reissue.. Especially one so shoddily done.. Deserves a Jewel case and a good standard of Artwork straight away!! I'll stick to the PS 08/61 or the one on Astralworks any day.
  • Jazzual about 1 year ago

Jonah will not have given permission for Keith to release this album and even Keith won't be stupid enough to do so. Just trust me!
  • bullfinchart about 1 year ago

Well whatever's happening, Keith is now advertising the Psychonavigation Facebook page as the only place to buy CDs anymore. What a joke.
  • mickchillage about 1 year ago

Selling off the Namlook/Fax re-issues for €1.00 is a disgrace and deeply disrespectful to Pete's Legacy :(
  • bullfinchart about 1 year ago

UOVI has been informed that Psychonavigation has closed down and ceased trading, and has been given his rights back, had stuff removed from iTunes etc. Given that this has happened just before the Sea Biscuit reissue was due, I wonder if maybe Jonah managed to pull the plug on the release and this was the straw that broke Downey's back?

I've been trying to get in touch with him re: the status of the label, tried the Psychonavigation Facebook - he's read the message but not replied.
  • Kracker about 1 year ago

Jonah simply pulling the plug on his release wouldn't have done it unless he did something REALLY bad this time or simply fucked with wrong person, in order to get him kicked off everything, website, bandcamp, iTunes. We know how stubborn he is about cancelling releases, he wouldn't take Jonah cancelling lying down
  • bullfinchart about 1 year ago

I just wondered if maybe it had got pulled during or after the manufacture process, which would have left Keith out of pocket on it. But yes, you're probably right...
  • mickchillage about 1 year ago

Yes, looks like the end of the road for the label and hopefully the end of the Fax pillaging.
  • bullfinchart about 1 year ago

As an artist with an album now in limbo I'd like to know what this means in practical terms. I tried messaging Keith on Facebook again and he's now blocked me on there - so I'm now stuck.
  • mickchillage about 1 year ago

    now the label is back?
one release on bandcamp by No Mask effect?
    https://psychonavigationrecordsofficial.bandcamp.com/album/no-mask-effect-buddha-bowl
  • Kracker about 1 year ago

Yeah he has that and his other label he runs under a fake name. Be very curious to know what shut him down, is he even allowed to do business on bandcamp anymore? If he can only sell his own music now, why keep using the Psychonavigation name? Just to keep spitting on Pete's grave? Why not just make a No Mask Effect and resign himself to selling his own crap?
  • mickchillage about 1 year ago

I dunno why he always uses other artists names etc, I mean Keith Reid his real name to
Keith Downey? Sounds very close to Ken Downey from The Black Dog. Why do that in first place
obviously he had planned some devious activities from the outset IMO.

The use of Psychonaviagtion was supposed to be a Homage to Bill and Pete Fax etc
but I think it was to create some sort of instant fame for his label or make people think he was connected to Fax in some way, which fooled some people, as I have often been asked if the label was co ran by Pete in some way to those less clued in.
  • WildDragon. about 1 year ago

  • Kracker 6 months ago

Well we know he didn't pay Lackluster or Mick Chillage. Other than that, a bunch of the lesser known artists are probably going to be the majority of his victims. Usually the lawyer contacts all the people that may be among the plantiffs.
  • bullfinchart 6 months ago

    bullfinchart edited 6 months ago
A friend of mine has mentioned taking him to a small claims court. Not that I know if it's worth it (it's just pounds really, given his €1 sales are how he shifts most of his CDs), but if lots of people came together with complaints then it might be worth bothering with.

I also have a friend who manages a fairly well known electronic group looking at my contract to see how far in the wrong Keith is.
  • Kracker 6 months ago

    Kracker edited 6 months ago
Yeah you need all the artists that got screwed in on this for it to happen. Try Peter Benisch too and see if you can add him to the plantiffs. You're going at least to sue enough for lawyer fees and to stop him from being able to do business ever again.
  • bullfinchart 6 months ago

Anybody who hasn't received account statements and/or royalties has had their contract breached by Keith and should technically be able to remove themselves from their contract. If he doesn't allow that then he's breaking the law.
  • mickchillage 6 months ago

I was told by someone many years ago in Dublin that his real name is Keith Reid,
so Keith Downey doesn't exist when we checked who psychonavigation.com was owned by
the name Keith Reid was listed as the owner of the domain.
    Says it all really..
  • ProgScape 6 months ago

Someone needs to put on the Discogs release that this is an unofficial release and that the copyright owner has asked for this not to be done, yet it is being done so anyway.

    <raises hand>
  • Kracker 6 months ago

We don't know, unless you have something on that. All we know is that Jonah hasn't promoted or even mentioned this reissue as far as I can see. He hadn't even mentioned that new album that was supposedly coming. If you had your first new album in over 18 years coming, you'd think you'd care to say something to your fans about it? This is all sorts of strange.
  • Jazzual 6 months ago

When Keith originally said he was releasing this I sent a message to Jonah on Facebook to enquire whether he'd approved this release. I still don't actually own it!

I heard back from someone, presumably his partner to say the answer was no.

Why would he agree to releasing music with someone who is known for ripping off artists? I wouldn't worry about suing the guy. He's already destroyed his label as virtually no one buys from him judging from his Discogs stats!
  • Kracker 6 months ago

It's worth noting that Astralwerks still have their version of Sea Biscuit on Spotify, which certainly suggests that they still have the rights to it.

"This release has been blocked from sale in the marketplace. It is not permitted to sell this item on Discogs."

  • ACRID303 4 months ago

    ACRID303 edited 4 months ago
I think since Zink Media took over Discogs anything tagged as Unofficial or Bootleg etc. Is banned from marketplace now with immediate effect.. It's down to Discogs staff probably to make a final decision overall. With Keith’s constant murmurings amongst false accounts here I think the penny has finally dropped amongst the staff now. Overall too many false accounts here attached to him and won’t help his cause.. If your music is legit sell yourself and not behind a pseudonym.. Most of his false accounts here also seem to be closed down now pretty much with immediate effect.. Let’s all hope and see Pete's legacy continue to live on now untainted.

Hi guys my name is Scott I'm from Stirling and a keen follower of Ambient vibes so obviously aware of the epic music out there, lots of which you chaps are making which is absolutely fantastic ! I caught this thread originally last year and I've stumbled across it again and couldn't believe the nonsense that has been going on. I have purchased a few CDs from the 'topic' of the converse here and yes on a £1 sale thing. It's really terrible that someone can get away with doing that to people. Selling their music and just presenting it as their own data effectively. I am sure this will be a case for karmic redemption, it's really sad.
Hats off to you all, it's good to see a thriving community still going strong and getting stronger all the time. Hopefully as I am literally a brand new user here you don't think it's another odd account.
I used to be under sourcedjs on here but my account seems to have wiped. I now look forward to having to reload all my vinyl , cd's etc :) I am producing music too so hopefully someday I'll have something you can listen to. I might have a good way to go though going by standards ! All the best keep the vibe up guys !
